what is the potential of a HO 351 4v strong motor or no does it have more potential than a 302 would you recomend it for my 82 ttop or is it to much

Depends on the year of the motor, but overall any 351 can handle much more power and like the old saying goes.... there aint no replacement for displacement. A well set up 351 can make alot more power than a 302, and it will have much more torque to boot. You can do a budget 351 buildup and make some respectable power. You can use stock 5.0 motor mounts, but that would necessitate a cowl hood. Get a decent aftermarket 4 barrel dual plane intake, 650 vacuum secondary carb, 351W Swap headers, off road H pipe, cat back exhaust of your choice, 8.8 rear end with 3.55/3.73 gears and an aftermarket Mechanical fuel pump. As for transmission, if you want to go 5 speed you can get a 10" 28oz imbalance flywheel and a performance clutch for an '85 Mustang GT. Use an 84-93 bellhousing and trans mount as well as the driveshaft. If you're going automatic, you can either run a C4/C6 or an AOD transmission. It wont be too hard, and it will be a worthwhile swap.

The limiting potential on the 302 is the thin casting. A factory block can handle up to 500 WHP. The 351 si not as rev happy but it can handle up to 800 HP.

If your car already has a 302 in it, stick with that. The 351 is a good idea if your shooting for bigger power, but it really lach in the fuel milage departement.

I beg to differ about the the rev's. I got a 351W in the 65 Stang and it comes alive up in the revs. Prolly due to the cam and Intake combo. As far as fuel milage, its not bad on gas. My 351W only use's 3 Bucks per trip to Waterloo compared to my 5.0. And my 65 Stang has 3.70 gears compared to the 2.73 on the 5.0.

just my 0.02 cents worth
