87, 89, 91 or 94 What ocatane are you using in your 5.0?

Hi Gang

I know it says in the manual minimum 87 and obviously we cant buy anything less than that. Our motor can run on either reg or premium. However I was wondering what yall are using and what benefits they provide if any. My understanding is 91/94 will provide that extra 8 HP in the 2013 5.0 version and provide better mileage. I read that somewhere

I always try to use Husky 94

I use 87 cause its cheaper. The higher the octane the better the mileage is going to be as well as the power.
I've also read that Husky fuel, and others that use an ethanol blend actually get worse mileage than there equally octane rated non ethanol blends. However they are safer in supercharged applications and can get better power.

As far as I know everyone has around 10% ethanol in Canada.

I only run 91 Octane, mainly Shell.

Most regular is 10% ethanol, premium 0% ethanol. Yes, that makes mid grade 5%, as the mid grade is just a mix of the two at the pump.

Ethanol does not have the same energy pre litre as petrol, so high Ethanol percents will reduce fuel economy.

I am new to the 5.0 just got my GT on Sept 8 2012, and I haven't been running anything but Shell 87 and she is a screamer. I am not sure I would notice any difference with Shell 91. She sounds great and runs great on 87. Thats my opinion. I know many will disagree and say that we purchased high performance cars so we should run ony the premium gas, but hey what can I say. If the manual said only premium then without a doubt I would go that way.

The great thing is our 5.0 will run on either and adjust.

You better double check your Shell fuel stop, because as far as I know all shell V-power now contains ethanol as well. This was just changed very recently. I used to run the V-power premium only, but now I am using Husky 94 Premium, since Shell has added the ethanol to their premium.

^^ I was going to say that shell doesn't have ethanol, I didnt know they changed.

I've been running 87 without any issues. I tried a tank of 91 and frankly couldn't tell the difference so why bother. I won't be running the car much in the winter so will probably fill the tank with Shell 91 or maybe Chevron 94, with a little Stabil added, for storage.
