Aftermarket Exhaust
Aftermarket Exhaust
I've moved this discussion from the "Introductions" forum, where I was speculating on some options: a) Borla Touring cat-back; b) Magnaflow Street cat-back; or c) Roush axle-back. I want a bit more volume than stock, but not an aggressive sound.
I'm wondering if the cat-backs might be too loud and subject to drone, given that they delete the resonator. On the other hand, would the Roush axle-back be too close to the stock sound, given that it keeps the resonator? I've listened to sound clips on You Tube, but it's not easy to tell what something really sounds like from those samples - especially drone inside the car, which vendors probably tend to downplay (they are, after all, in the business of selling these aftermarket systems).
I bought a cat-back to replace my former car's (Challenger R/T) exhaust, and it turned out to be far more raucous than advertised, and droned badly in the dreaded 2k rpm zone. I got tired of frightening little children and risking lawsuits from the neighbors, so ended up re-installing the stock system. I guess, then, that I'm a little gun-shy, so to speak, about trying this mod again.
So, is there something out there that dishes out just a bit more oomph than stock, and absolutely does not drone? Would the options mentioned above fit the bill? Are there other options? (It was suggested I also look into MBRP.) I guess I should describe my car: 2017 GT with performance package. It's not a premium, so I can't swap the valance.

I can tell you that I’ve used Roush several times. If your concern is sounding too close to stock I can assure you that’s not the case. They have no drone but they are quite a bit louder than stock. In the car with the windows closed it’s not a huge difference but noticeable. Outside the car is much more aggressive but shouldn’t really make your neighbors hate you.
My understanding is there is some drone with MBRP but I’ve never heard it in person so I can’t confirm or deny that.
i have heard Corsa Xtreme in person and it sounds terrific but it is very aggressive sounding with no drone. If I was buying an exhaust and money was no object this is what I would buy.
My my understanding is that Borla products will not drone but I can’t confirm or deny on a 5.0. I ran a Borla S Type on a 4.6 3V and it did not drone. I never found it to be loud enough for my liking but it sounded good.

I think you're right about the Borla not having any drone; it appears I was mistaken in saying their cat-back has no resonator. The kit does look like it includes a resonator, although perhaps not as bulky as the stock GT one.
I've been going back and listening again to various systems, and I think the Borla Touring will probably be my choice. The sound isn't too raunchy and, as a bonus, I really like the available black tips; I think they'd look cool with my black rims and the color of my car.
Thanks for your thoughts on this.

From a quality standpoint I think you’ll be really happy with Borla. I really like the sound of the Atak from the clips I’ve heard, for me the Touring would be a little too quiet but I like an aggressive note. Let us know what you think once you’ve got it installed and post up some sound clips if possible.
