Any tips for removing stubborn bolts?
 

I just picked up a new rearend for my car. The guy I bought it off just cut the control arms and dropped the rearend out of the car. Does anyone have any tips for removing those bolts. I just got in from being out there for an hour and a half and I did not make ANY progress in getting them off. I have a 5 hp compressor and an impact gun and that didnt do a damn thing. I tried a big breaker bar and once again..nothing. My only option left is a torch. Do you guys think that will get these threads to crack. Its getting really frusterating to not be making progress after working so long. So if anybody has any tips or tricks I would really appreciate it.

Here's what I've done to get bolts out: torch, grinding the head off, using an air chisel. One of those normally works for me, just wear eye protection.

You will most likely have to torch them.When i did the 8.8 rear swap on my ol' '85 GT,i had to torch all the lower control arm bolts off,nothing was going to break them free :banghead: .

i baught a rear end and it was the same way(somebody cut the control arms)
don't bother with the impact just get a torch it's really the only way!!!

I like to use the shock method in situations like the one your having. The shock method is simply heat the nuts till they're nice and red then spray water on them and impact as per norm.. Works every time for me. Mind you that you should not reuse the nuts and bolts as this method will take the temper out of the metal and will lead to eventual failure.

bah, the sawzall didnt work. It took me like 10 minutes to get a quarter of the way through one bolt. The torch I tried is just a standard propane torch, nothing fancy. I think I might need a better one to get these things off.

Is there not someone near by that you could take this to and have them zip the pieces off for you ie your regular mechanic ??

Most times if you catch them when they're slow they'll do it for ya for twenty bucks or so.
