probably a faulty spark plug wire, or distributor, also could be fuel pump, maybe a restriction in fuel line or a problem with fuel pressure regulator..hope this helps..good luck

Check your plugs, wires, and rotor then I would put a timing light on it and see where its at. Good luck :thumb1:

You can still get bad parts.

Who gapped the plugs?

I'd try a fuel filter first, usually a backfire is due to a lean condition, improper valve/ignition timing, firing order or a burnt/bent valve.

I replaced the fuel filter 10,oookm ago. How long do they last?....im going to check the timing again. If it hasn't moved it should still be at 10. would the engine run shitty with a bad valve?...it only ever seems to back fire when reving with no load and only when i first start it?...in a year and a half it might have done it 4-5 times. Run awesome any other time I wonder if a new fuel pressure regulator would be a good investment?

Filter should be good for 50k easily, a bad valve would cause it to run poorly always, since it only does it cold, my guess would be an intake leak, which would do it when cold but not hot due to expansion, try spraying some ether or wd-40 around the intake gaskets and see if the idle changes, keep a fire extinguisher handy when doing this-just in case. I would say it's probably got nothing to do with the fuel press. regulator.

upper intake gasket was changed 3 weeks ago....all the bolt were good cause i checked them but i will try it and see....the vacuum lines from the bottom of the intake plenum were also changed.

i drove the car most of last summer and never had this problem until i cleaned the MAF sensor...it did it once then i put the car away for winter....i put a new MAF on this year thinking that it was that causing this but i guess i was wrong. My problem is i dont know alot about testing and diagnosing these engines and nobody around here has alot of experience with them
