Best bang for buck on a new spool...
Who has a spool in stock and how much? Best offer wins :)
|
none of the shop owners that come here have a 28 spline spool in stock?
|
Do they even make a 28 spline spool? Seems like a waste to have to press on C clip eliminators onto a stock axle or even a small 28 spline replacement. With no slip in corners the axles will be under more stress so I'd really recommend at least a 31 spline upgrade at the same time.
I have had a Strange spool in mine but recently went to 33 spline and ran Moser stuff. I'd say both were about equal, I didn't see any clear advanatges to either. They both get the job done well. Both of mine came from Carl at The Parts Connection in Hamilton (905)957-5757, it'd have to be ordered in but in a day or two you'd have it. |
Well the 28 Spline spool would just be a temporary replacement until I NEED to upgrade to 31 spline. For now i'm just not making enough power to really worry about. the car won't get street driven much either so I'm too worried about cornering and I wouldn't go to C-clip eliminators either....not until I'm well into the 11s and by then I'd upgrade to 31 spline.
What did you do with your old 31 spline spool and axels when you went to 33? |
If you go to a spool you must install C clip eliminators because the spool does not have provisions for c clips.
I got mine from Carl at the Parts Connection also. |
Hmm, I never even thought that a spool would force me to use C-clip eliminators and I don't really understand why they wouldn't? Please explain :)
If the guy who upgraded still has his used 31 spline axels and spool still them I'd be interested in buying them. |
The spools don't come with provisions to install the axle retaining c clips.
The only way to get the axles to stay in the car with a spool is using c clip eliminators which house the axle bearings and are pressed on the axles. The retainers are then bolted to the differential housing, but the housing ends must be cut off also. |
My old 31 spline stuff was installed in a friends car. Long gone sorry.
http://www.bearsperformance.com/Page8/image1.jpg Notice no place to install the C clips or cross pin. It's a solid tube, you need eliminators with a spool. Frankly I think the stock 28 spline axles would be weaker than the diff, rebuild it with an extra clutch per side and keep pounding until the axle snaps. I've seen 13 second cars pop axles, anytime sticky tires are put on, no matter how fast, an axle upgrade becomes a very good idea. |
