Best place to tap for 12v ignition source?

I'm installing two gauges very shortly.

Where is the best place to tap in for the 12v ignition source?

I tapped off the rear defrost switch, I forget which wires though... Although, I think the switch was moved on your year. Mine is under the headlight knob.

or go out and get yourself a digy meter so that u can test for a switched 12v.(they come in very handy for many uses in the future)..or the pull your radio out...and tap in there.yellow wire with black stripe may be your easiest area

I already have a few multi-meters. I was trying to avoid splicing into a dozen or so wires.

I will tap into the wire behind the radio. Thanks :tup

Do you know which wire leading to the radio is for the dimming of the lights?

why dont you just tap into the fuse box?
they always leave open slots for extra stuff.
just a thought.

usually the wire for dimming of the lights is light blue with a red stripe, atleast on the older fords.

WHY HACK INTO SOMETHING THAT IS FUNCTIONING or OTHER SWITCHES ETC??? I have always wondered why people do this... i would suggest the cigarette lighter socket, or in my case i always tap stereo power that i ran to the back for my amps. I have even had a small fuse panel for different things i have working

Because those aren't ignition switched.
