Best short-throw shifter
So my wife asked me the question today:
"What would you like for Christmas"? I really hadn't thought about it much. So I mentioned a shifter and got a blank look and an order to find out which one I'd like. So let's hear your thoughts and experiences: |
I have a Pro 5.0 and no complaints. Really nice shifter and has a short throw. I have heard that the MGW shifter is a nice one also.
|
I have a Tri-Ax. I think it's an alright shifter. If I had the chance again, I'd probably go with a Pro 5.0.

Love my tri-ax. And i find the more i use it the better it feels. Ive heard the Pro5.0 is great as well. But almost too far forward. a pro5.0 with a tri-ax handle is nice. and yeah, alot of people really like the MGW.
Your fairly close, you can sit in my car in the garage and row the gears if ya want lol  Really i dont think you can go wrong with any of the new shifters. its more so comfort now. I used the rubber gasets to get rid of the heat & vibration. And its so percise going into 3rd. :tup |
I've got a Pro 5.0 and love it. I'm running a Steeda Tri-ax handle because the Pro 5.0 was real short. Pro 5.0 since changed the handle design and it's very much like the Tri-ax now.
Bottom line...versus the stocker, you can't go wrong with any of the shifters on the market Pro 5.0 Steeda Tri-ax MGW Hurst etc :tup |
Pro 5.0 is the best bang for your buck, MGW is the best but way expensive....the others are much better than stock lol
|
I have a Tri-ax, which I like, but I still miss 3rd occasionally. If I were doing it again I'd try a Pro 5.0 or MGW.
|
Sounds like there are really 3 contenders:
Tri-ax, Pro 5.0, MGW It may come down to the almighty $$, I'll keep you up to date on the decision :tup |
Tri-ax all the way. :tup
I had a Pro 5.0 in my 95 and could still miss the odd 2-3 shift at the track. Changed it to a Tri-ax and never missed another shift. |
Pro 5.0. Tri-Ax doesn't seem to get into 3rd as well.

Ive tried the pro 5.0 many times and I have a tri ax in my car. I would have to say I like the tri ax more.
|
we try both Pro 5.0 and the tri-ax, i think the tri-ax is a bit better ............. :tup
|
I have a Triax and it's a tad noisy for my liking.
I may try a Pro 5.0 in the spring. |
I like my B&M Pro ripper, 3 piece handle with lots of adjustabilty and two different set of springs to adjust firmness. The 2-3 shift is efforless at the track. :tup
|
Pro5.0 is nice a buddy has one in his car. I have the old Mac one and its good too but if i was to get a new one it would be Pro5.0
|
anyone in Canada running a MGW? Any pictures of it?
|
Well a Steeda Tri-Ax was under the tree from my wife this morning :tup
We'll see how it goes ..... |
Well I put it in today, and I must say I love it! My initial impressions (no race track time yet, that'll be about another 136 days  ):
1. Install was pretty basic. I found someone who put up a "how to" with pics that helped also - http://www.bullittarchive.com/3009.htm 2. I have the handle in the lowest position, shifts are smooth and crisp. Rev matching while coming down through the gears as part of "heel and toe" braking will take a little getting used to, rev a bit higher because you're coming down quicker. 3. No significant change in "cabin noise". Just a bit of a whine in third for some reason, it actually sounds good. 4. Is it a performance mod? You bet! Without pushing very hard (waiting for the track!) I can see that you loose significantly less RPM while changing gears (which makes sense), meaning you can bang through the gears quicker to get the one you need. Overall - :tup |
Sounds like your satisfied and that is good. Right on.
