chassis check
 

Is there any way to check if a chassis is twisted without taking it to a shop. The car is just a rolling chassis right now and I want to make sure its not f*cked before i start dumping money into it.

A primitive way is to measure the wheelbase on each side and make sure they're the same...the car could still be twisted other ways though

I don't have a factory manual for the stang but the few that I have seen for other vehicles included a section with reference dimensions for the chassis. I don't know if Ford includes this or not?

Are you worried about a previous accident (bent) or too much torque (twisted)?

Do the doors line up ok? Do you need to lift them or push them down to get them to latch? Could be worn out door pins too...

Just throwing some ideas out...

The doors do line up ok. The reason I'm worried is i jst found out the previous owner had it supercharged and built it just for a strip car to beat the crap out of. Also like i said before its just a precaution before i start spending money on it.

But keep the ideas/info coming!

look for some reference point's on either side of the car and measure for square like you would if you were wood working this would be easiest from under the car set on jack stands you could also use a plum bob and make marks on the floor to make the measurements easier to read

Does the car have subframes? I know alot of people find out that their cars are twisted to hell when they go to weld in a set of subframes just to realize they wont line up whatsoever

Are there any ripples or distortion in the C-pillar? I understand that some signs of damage can show up there.

If by c-pillar you mean the part behind the rear quarter windows, there are two lines,almost cracks, in the paint, one on each side about a foot down from the roof. I always wondered what they were and it kinda making sense now.

But the weird thing is the subframes i bought to put on line up good.
