Chassis Stiffening
 

Hi Guys,

In theory, a stiffer chassis is always a good thing (that's what she said?). In practice, I'm not so sure. I'm not a racer , just trying to improve my car bit by bit. I've come accross this:

Has anyone tryed it, or something similar? Does it make any difference? They say it makes no difference to ground clearance, but what about the ability to work on your car / access underneath? Any thoughts?

Hmm, not sure I'd do this unless my car was really loose or I was goin' racing.

I don't think I would either. If you just want to improve your handling for daily driving you can go with lowering springs, upper and lower rear control arms and maybe the panhard bar. This is a relatively cheap way to improve ride handling for daily driving.

On the 04 and older cars, extra chassis bracing is a great idea. The S197 cars have a pretty stiff platform out of the factory, IMO there is little to be gained for a street car by doing any additional bracing.

Spend your money on good springs and shocks, an adjustable panhard bar to centre the axle once it's lowered. Then maybe extended height balljoints and rear lower control arm attachment relocation brackets to get the geometry dialed in if you want to take it a step further. My friend that tracks his 07 GT has all of the above (Bilsteins with FRPP springs), the car works awesome.
