Choose a new set of summer tires for my 06 Mustang GT Conv
 

Hi Guys

I have a set of 06 stock rims are 18x8.5, and a set of 2010 stock rims, I guess they are 19x8.5. So far I've tried the following:

1. I brought a 2nd hand LM25 snow tire, 235/40/R18, put them on the stock 18x8.5 rim. Since it's a low profile performance snow tires. I love the feel on the road, performs much better than the stock tires. And they are lighter. So I guess I like a profile tires. But it's two small, since my car is 1.4 inch lowered.

2. I brought a stock 2010 tires, they were 245/45/R19, looks quite good on my lowered car. But they are two heavy, performs not as good as the above snow tires. Another problem is that the car beaks not as good as before, guess because the wheels are heavier. So I don't want to use it in summer anymore.

3. Later I brought a set of 265/35/R19 LM25 snow tires from tirerack because they were on sale ($550 plus tax and shipping, total $850). Today I put them on the above 19" rims. They look great so I guess I'm happy with this snow tires set up and leave them like that.

Now I need a new set of summer rims and tires. What I learned from the above are:
1. I think 19" looks the best, but they are heavier.
2. I prefer low profile tires, they feel great on the road, and they are lighter.

But I still have the set of 18" snow tires and stock rims. With a bit research, I found that the widest tires can go with the stock 18x8.5 is 255/45/R18. They are not that low profile, so I am worrying about the feel on the road. I believe it may look like this since my car is lowered:

Not sure if I should buy a new set of 19" rims and tires or just use this stock 18" rim with 255/45. I want to ask you guys:

1. How is the road feel with 255/45/R18? I really like low profile tires stick to the road, especially while corning, although I don't speeding and racing. Of course, low profile tires are a bit bumpy and easy to flat.

2. If I want to go 19" summer tires, what's the best setup considering both look and road feel. What kind of rims are lighter?

as always the more $$$$$$$ the better the product. If you need sticky tires and they are expensive I would suggest Pirelli P System tires. They have a stick rating of 140 which is low low low. Good luck either way you go

Where can I check a tires stick rate? I am looking at tirerack.com

Never mind new tires... You need a damn car wash.....lol

for the money you spent on rims and tires for the winter you could have bought a beater :P lol

Winter is almost half a year long in Toronto! :banghead:

And I can't just take this car to the gas station for a wash. I hand wash it all the time, and this year did give me a chance. :banghead:

Sell off ALL your wheels
get GT500KR wheels powder coat them black and drive the car in the Late Spring - Fall and get a 1500 winter beater and park the car

The tire stick should be in the review somewhere
