clutches

what clutches are you guys running? i'm in the market for a new one

BlueGT 04-19-2005 11:23 AM

I'm running a Ford Racing clutch. There's so many good/bad stories about the various "top" brand names.

Bubba_Lane 04-19-2005 11:58 AM

when mine goes im just gonna get an o.e.m replacement. if you aint pushing over 500 hp no real point in a high performance clutch, but thats just my opinion.

largeman 04-19-2005 12:13 PM

the ford clutch is a good one for the street.....

machingu 04-19-2005 07:20 PM

Heys guys i'm hopin to push 440rwhp or so in the Mach and wonder what would be the best clutch to go with when this one goes?

After doing some reading today, Centerforce seems to have some real problems so a Ford Racing or King Cobra might be best. they're dirt cheap top

I am kinda partial to the Spec Stage 3 myself!!!
Someone once said.....Why be a bear when you can be a GRIZZLIE!!

Ouch, that's gotta be a difficult clutch for on the street. How has it been?

SirChirpAlot 04-20-2005 01:04 AM

my clutch setup is a bit of everything left over.

First off i have the ford racing billet steel flywheel.
King cobra disc with a centerforce pressure plate.

It works ok but i have a feeling i will need to get a new disk and machine the flywheel and PP

I've had 2 Centerforce dual friction clutches in 2 different cars with no problems. Great for street duty too with stock pedal feel. :tup

Stang6589 04-20-2005 06:57 AM

I am running a King Cobra.

james93stang 04-20-2005 07:11 AM

i'm going to be using a ford motorsport clutch, i installed one in my 88 i had and i never had any problems accept for the stock cable getting stretched so i switched to a adjustable cable setup.

Scones 04-20-2005 11:31 AM

i just use a factory replacement clutch...make your clutch your weak link. it's much cheaper to replace a broken clutch than a busted tranny.

anarchist 04-20-2005 12:10 PM

I'm on my second Centerforce dual friction clutch on the car, through no fault of the clutch but rather a completely amateur installation of the alluminum flywheel the first time.

Great clutch, grabs like crazy. Stock clutch always felt like it never grabbed hard and was always slipping if you were trying to launch.

PO10PONY 04-20-2005 03:18 PM

The SPEC Stage 3 is a little grabby but very easy to get use to on the
street!!!!!

Schnitz 04-20-2005 04:35 PM

I have a SPEC stage 1 right now. Pretty comfortable on the street and grabs well too. However, I think it might be slipping a little. Once the rear end is installed this weekend I'm sure I'll find out for sure. I have a SPEC Stage 2 sitting at home just in case.

Schlodes 04-23-2005 05:49 PM

I put a Motorsport clutch [not the King Cobra] in my LX in 2002, and its seen nitrous all through 2002, and 2003 was stock motor but slicks and 5000 RPM launches on the street and track, and 2004 was same conditions as '03 but with about 90 more HP on motor  It's still hangin in, and i've put roughly 20000 Kms on it too... i'll buy another one.

I gotta get a clutch for the SVO cause I have Draglites and ET Streets on now, and no way the stock clutch is gonna last long with a 2 step leaving at 4500 and 10+ PSI.
