Cold Air Intake

Hi All and congrads on a great forum!

Just a quick question. I have a 09 stang and will be doing CAI and exhaust very soon. I am wondering why the Ford Racing CAI is double the price of some of the aftermarket brands. I know sometimes you "get what you pay for" and other times "pay for the name".

Does anyone have any feedback on the Ford Racing CAI?

What makes it so darn expensive?

thanks,

I was just going to say it would be the one that comes with the tuner. You don't want that. THe cai is a nice piece but the tuner is a piece of crap. What you want is some itteration of sct tuner. sct excalibrator 2 or better. 90% of the tuners out there use sct software so getting a sct tuner will allow you to get tunes e-mailed to you from most any tuning company. You can use the sct tuner with all of the intakes available.

The most popular cai's for s197's are jlt, c&l, and steeda. Most of the big tuner companies out there have deals where you can get a cai, tuner, and tune as a package deal. That would be your best bet for performance and bang for the buck.

ok here is the deal with the cold airs for the S197's....

K&N's and a few other companies sell the cold air that requires no tuning... this is because the piping is not very large and does not come with a big Maf housing. Meaning not the best pipe for the Hp you are looking to gain and the computer can compinsate the differnce in air so it doesn't go lean. But with the bigger cold air kits it needs to be tuned for the new amount of air the car is reading

Here at the shop we have tested and used many times over the C&L cold air kit. With a 91 octane tune we usually pick up 20hp at the wheels with 94 we have seen as high as 25-30hp. I have a few guys with 4.10 gears, 94 octane tune C&L cold air that run high 12's on motor. C&L,Jlt,anderson power pipe all have large tubing and maf's and pick up great power...

I run a C&L on my car :)

I have the Ford Racing CAI without the tuner.
This is the exact same CAI that was used on the Bullitt and it is from what I hear going to be stock on the 2010.

I just got it last week and paid $250 us for it.
Anyway, I am going to buy an Excal 3 and have the tune cover this CAI so I will get the extra hp/tq that an 85mm maf will give the 4.6

I personally went with this one because of the look of it and the performance too but if you buy a C&L, Steeda, BBK, JLT, etc..... unless you get a really shitty tune you should be fine.

Good Luck

You'll love that setup. I agree the frpp cai is definently one of the nicest looking ones.
