cold air intake
 

I am thinking of getting one for my 2016 V6. Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated as I am very new to this mustang and mod scene! Roush or Airaid? Best price? I have snooped around a little on line but open to advise! Thanks

I have not read too much about the v6's but generally they are just for looks. The tune is where you will gain more power, if that's what you're after.

Modern airbox design is actually pretty good. Generally speaking, the cold air intakes that do make a difference will require a tune and flash device (tuner). The reason for this is the diameter of the intake (where the mass airflow sensor is mounted) is larger. This will require some changes to the programming for the car to run properly. The intakes that don't require a tune will use the same diameter as the stock system where the MAF is mounted. They are typically for show and a little more intake noise.

My advice is to get a tuner/tune first, then think about a CAI. As def67 said, it is all in the tune. Once you have a tuner, you open up a lot of possibilities. For example, correcting the speedo for gearing/tire changes, adding a CAI, changing shift points/firmness (if you are automatic), etc. A tuner may cost a little more than a CAI, but it is a very useful tool, and it is so worth it. When I first brought my 6er home, there was an annoying throttle lag that drove me nuts (was my first drive-by-wire car), and this was cured with my first tune...made the car much nicer to drive.

Just something to consider.

I have the Airaid CAI and Bama Performance Tune on my 2012 V6. I can tell you from screwing around with different configurations between stock airbox, CAI and Tune that, from my seat of the pants feel experience, The CAI by itself doesn't feel much different other than make the car sound much, much better. The CAI with the tune however, turns the car into a completely different animal. You get the ferocious sound and you can feel the difference big time.. Especially with the Race Tune and premium fuel. The only thing is the price for those items together is not cheap. AM sells their CAI and Tuner kits from $689.00 US to 727.00 US plus an obscene amount for shipping. So you have to ask yourself is the sound and an additional 20 ish HP worth it? Personally for me it was totally worth it and I would do it again but if you plan on doing something more agressive in the future like a super charger your set up may not be compatible. I plan on putting a Procharger Supercharger on mine in the near future and found out that my current setup will have to come out to accommodate everything. I won't even be able to use the tuner as the Procharger comes with it's own. The bottom line is you need to get the tune as well to take advantage of the CAI.
