Cold Air Intake - reflash tools
I am interested in putting on a BBK cold air intake on my 2006 Mustang GT. BBK claims that this does not require the computer to be adjusted but I have read conflicting reviews that say you should to get the most out of the mod. If I install this and there is a problem with the computer (check engine light), is it better to purchase a customer tuner and do it myself or take it to a dealer to have it adjusted.

I installed a BBK CAI on mine without a tune and I was fine. You may see slightly more gains on a CAI with a tune, but I'd save my money if I were you - unless you are planning on adjusting other aspects of your ECU as well (higher octane gas, etc). In fact, you'd probably see more gains with a proper aggressive tune than with a CAI. Just my 2 cents.

Cold Air Intake - reflash or not
Thanks for the advice VAEM! I will buy the intake and wait and see if i need to reflash or not.

To get the most of your CAI you need a tune. This will ensure that you're A/F is not too lean and prevent engine damage.
Get a 91 octane performance tune and it will be night and day difference, not only with overall hp and torque increases but throttle response as well. |
