Control arm bushing change!
 

Hey guys, im getting ready to swap out my old rear control arm bushings for my new poly ones.....has anyone done this before, If so is there any pointers to give that might help!

uppers or lowers? or both?

Yes go to Crappy tire and buy a small wire wheel or brass wire wheel that will fit into a drill to clean the rubber out of the arms.
On hte control arms you will need to heat the crap out of them omn the out side till the rubber starts to bubble then pound the sh!t out of it to get them out. Then wire wheel the inside to polish it up. As for the diff the 2 in there will give you the most greif, since ther casting is so thick unless you have an oxy acetaline(sp?) torch you will have to drill and pound the piss to get it out. Again use the wire wheel to clean it out.

Do not pick a hot day cause you will sweat and swear allot :gun:

When I did mine I took an old 3/8" drill bit I didn't care about and drilled it into the rubber portion just next to the metal shell.I then let it walk around the bushing.After a couple times around,the bushing would slide out fairly easy.Any pieces that were left I burned out using my oxy-acetylene torch.I tried using a propane torch first but it just made them gooey, the oxy-acetylene was hot enough to turn the remains to a powder.

I did the same job on my son's Honda. The propane torch took a long time.Messy job.
