daily driving a 2012 Boss 302
I've been daily driving my 2 weeks old Mustang Boss and I plan to drive it all summer and drive my beater in the winter. I hate that I will have to put a lot of miles on it since I'll drive it pretty much every day for half of the year but I also feel like parking it and taking it out on weekends plus a few more occasions is a huge waste of such a great car. what do you guys think about that? how many park their newer Mustangs to keep the miles low?
|
I drive mine every chance I get, rain, shine, even some snow!
|
It`s a car driver her. just take care of her she will be alright.
|
I drive mine occasionally threw the summer months, and keep it parked in the winter.
Having a family of five helps out in one aspect lol..... but even then i like my GT to be a treat on those days i want to drive it. That is where i really love my car. This will be one of those arguements, you watch. LOL In short for me, i plan to keep my GT til the end, so that is how i will enjoy my car. It's not so much about the miliage, but the care on the car for long term. But when i do take my GT out, it gets used LOL! For someone who plans on upgrading all the time, that long term plan doesn't really matter to them, so miliage, and wear, and tear are the last things on there mind.... they know they will have a new one done the road anyways. That is just how i see it guess. |
I don't daily drive mine as I have a demo vehicle but if I had to I wouldn't have an issue with it. I wouldn't drive it in the winter but other than that, it's just a car.
|
Drive it all summer!!! That's awesome. You bought it, now enjoy it!
|
Why spend all that money and let it sit, looking nice ? Keeping it nice for the next guy who buys it when you trade it/ sell it ?? Waste of hard earned money, it's just a car, get out there and enjoy it, and let everyone else enjoy it by checking it out as you roar past. Better yet, throw me the keys and I'll drive it for you. lol
|
It has 4 wheels and an engine for a reason -- so that you can drive it!!!
cheers Ed |
thanks for the input guys!

that's exactly what goes through my head whenever I think about parking it to keep the miles low. |

I have had my car for 2 weeks so far and just rolled over to the 1000km's. If i could drive it to work every day i would. My only problem is i am in construction and the leather would get wrecked if i drove it there every day. So i drive it evenings (if i get off early enough) and weekends to enjoy the car.
I say drive it. You spent the $$$ for it, show it of with pride man and just do the maintenance that needs to be done. |
I gotta say I'm in the drive 'em 'til the wheels fall off club. Don't get me wrong, I love my car and she receives all required maintenance (& then some!) and as parts break they are replaced with OEM or better. If I really love a car (like this one!) I'll make it last as long as possible. But I also like to upgrade to a newer model every now and then, so when the one I'm driving is done, it's done.
I probably wouldn't drive a Boss, GT500, or classic Mustang through the winter, but I have no qualms about driving my sixer in the snow, and in fact prefer it over any front wheel drive car. Even with snow tires installed, in a rear wheel drive car I like the fact that I know when I leave my driveway how slippery the roads are, as opposed to finding out the first time I hit the brakes. People often berate me for driving a Mustang in the winter, but I just tell them I could have bought a Camry that I wouldn't have enjoyed driving at all, and it would have cost me more money. That usually shuts them up. Now if I was in the money is no object crowd, I would follow Jay Leno's philosophy: I recall him saying (I think to Dennis Gage of My Classic Car) that he buys a project car, restores it to a 100 point show car, drives it back down to 70 or 80 points, then restores it again. Bottom line: Enjoy your car whatever way you like :) |
I try to keep my mustang out of the rain, its easier to clean that way. I drive my Turbo coupe every day except in the winter. Its 25 years old now and still going strong at 285 k on it. So I guess I have one foot in each camp.
As my racing budy says" it's only a piece of equipment meant to be abused". Drive it the way you want. Nice looking BOSS BTW. |

Well mine is just a GT, but it doesn't see rain, snow or any kind of bad weather...maybe I'm nuts, but this will not change. I have the series 300 for daily driving, and my work truck.
|
Too each their own, haha. Like someone said already, agree to disagree. And dont get me wrong, if there's lots of snow on the ground I dont bother since I'd just get stuck. But this was a pretty mild winter and the little snow we did get was nothing.
If I had a garage I might be different, but I'd still drive in the rain with no worries, heck the rain is fun cause you dont burn the tires just spin em! |
I say do what makes you feel good!
In my case, my Bullitt is not all that comfortable to drive on the streets anymore, but I still do when the urge hits me. This one is my first "big boy toy", and I love competing in solo competitions and having my sons co-drive the car with me. From time to time I lust after a new GT with the Brake Performance Pack or a Boss, in which case I would definitely drive it as much as I could in the non-winter months. |
I guess in my case, because I am a lil nuts (cue the squirrel), I have totally cleaned the underside of my car, and polished what could be polished under the car as well as the rest of it, so with it being so clean, I just want it to stay that way. I've seen on every other vehicle I've had, that some parts do get that rust look after being in the rain or snow, and frankly I just don't want to see that ever.
On a side note, I'm up to 5,500 kms on the odo, and the stickers are still on the exhaust. I thought they would have burned off by now.:? |
I put mine away for the winter but is my DD when it's on the road.
It just about kills me to put the cover on her in December but it's like getting a new car all over again in April :tup |
yea, I think I agree with most of the comments. I'll drive it for as long as I can while taking care of it and park it through the winter.

I was driving my Boss over the long weekend in Calgary, stopped at a set of lights and low and behold a Boss LS pulled up beside me, what a treat, folks on the corner wanted us to drag but I'm not into that, I gave them a bit of a rev of the engine but that was that, the other guy didn't look interested either, two Boss's driving head to tail down the road was a sweat sight!!
|
sweeeeeet, most mustang owners i drive by, i give a nod and hope they give the same respect back..... it's a 50/50 on the nod back

My wife just laughs and says "You guys are a unique breed aren't you?" Then I just nod :D |

Ditto. So far I can't remember not getting a nod back.

That'd be pretty funny to see the two Boss' like that.
|
Pics of the two Boss' at the lights would be cool. On a side note, I've been getting and giving the nod this season too.

So...what does it mean when you get the wave from a Camaro?

It largely depends on the location. When I was living in Edmonton, Alberta I would only drive the Mustang from April 30-November 01. During the winter months, because of high snow accumulation I would drive the SUV. Now that I am in the sunny Okanogan I drive it whenever I can, except for shopping trips.
|
Just pulled into Whitehourse, the roads aren't bad at all. We were hoping on getting to Dawson City soon but the top of the world highway that leads there is all gravel, so we will continue on to Alaska tomorrow after taking in the sights here for today. I didn't bring my laptop so I will start a thread when I get back and share some dirty mustang pics with everybody!
|
Oh and I wave to the Crapmaros if they wave to me, but only if they wave first, lol.
|
haha I haven't had a Camaro wave at me so far

I drive my 2006 GT most days because I too enjoy driving it. It is such a stress reliever to give it a boot to get on the highway on my way home. winter is not that severe here so i do drive it in the cold weather but avoid snow days if I can and the wife does not have an appointment. I keep it well waxed and clean it every chance I get. My garage is warm too so I actually wax it in the winter. I do have it oil sprayed just in case. I still get lots of compliments on how good it looks for the year. All that being said, I am tempted to get a beater car so it will last longer and give me many years of enjoyment.
|
I'd say drive the car as much as you can specially in the summer...only come around once. I'm lucky to have another car, a good "beater", that i don't drive the mustang when it's bad out in the winter, or i know i'm going to be stuck in some long and congested traffic route where i can't enjoy the mustang anyway by way of performance, on the way to business or work. It's meticulously cleaned and maintained as well, and that's part of enjoying the car, then driving it out!
