Dead battery - transmission locked

The battery went dead in my 2006 GT last night. I do drive it in the winter but only on dry days. obviously this winter there has not been too many of those so it has been about 3 weeks since i drove it. anyway the battery was dead and i wanted to move the car back to get at the battery but the auto transmission would not engage. I turned the key on etc. Is there something i am missing?

I am guessing the new cars with their brake inter-lock are electronic. Meaning you need to put your foot on the brake and the brake sends a signal to the tranny. Without power this might not be happening.

Can you use battery jumper cables from a battery at the side to the car's battery?

I agree with Paul.As long as you can reach the hood latch, your good.Since the battery is behind the strut, infront of the firewall, you will need to take it out from the side anyways.

dead battery

The transmission would not unlock even with the normal foot on the brake and the key lock turned. I was able to crawl across the engine and put the charger on.

the next problem i have is now the window does not automatically seal back up when the door is closed. any idea on how to reset this?

SNAKEBITE 02-18-2011 05:41 PM

Once the battery is charged it should so up. I always pull the battery and put it on my CTEK charger. Leaving Cottam tomorrow for the frozen west, dammit

Whosit 02-18-2011 05:44 PM

Just put the window down then back up with the door closed and it will reset.

Red Stang 02-18-2011 05:47 PM

I found it - hold the window switch in the upright position until it seats up and hold it for 2 seconds and it will reset.

Your manual for the car tells you how to do the window reset. There is also a TSB.

Do a google search for this TSB.

TSB 06-22-18 or follow this link and go to the last post on the page.

Anytime...we'll see yah in a couple of months.

3 weeks and your battery is dead? DEAD! I'd get a new battery from Ford. My car has been sitting in the garage for almost 5 months now and it's still going strong.

Kaisoboy 02-20-2011 01:27 AM

if your battery is going dead after only three weeks I would also check into this TSB.

^^^ Good find.

Kaisoboy 02-20-2011 02:50 PM

Yeah, there are a few things I have heard of that contribute to a dead battery. One was the CD player, another was the active alarm and if you google it you will find others.

Cheers

good call Lar. I used to turn the 05gt to radio and then shut the car down, then no problem. Weird I know

Kaisoboy 02-20-2011 06:04 PM

There is actually a TSB for the radio as well but I can't seem to find it right now. Here is a link to most of the TSB:

I have not gone TSB shopping for my car yet, maybe just before the 3 year warranty is up

Kaisoboy 02-21-2011 02:08 AM

Would be a good idea the buds. I still have warranty until may 2012. I have a small list going myself that I want to get delt with this summer.
