Detonation with Xcal 2 & K&N FIPK

I recently installed an XCal 2 91 Octane tune & reset my speedo with my 373 addition... only to find that I immediately started having detonation!!!

Mainly it was was down low, near 1,000 rpms when reving the engine with no load... but it would also happen when shifting from 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th at WOT. Ran a couple of tanks of 91 Oct thru... still no change.

Contacted Steeda.ca where I got the XCal 2 and the first question they asked was whether I was running a K&N FIPK. When I told them I was... they suggested I remove the K&N system & go back to stock - that they've heard of this problem before!

So....

(1) I put the factory tune back on with the K&N... detonation GONE.

(2) XCal 2 - 91 oct program back on (K&N FIPK still in place)... detonation BACK.

(3) Xcal 2 - 91 oct program on with stock intake (snorkle removed)... all CLEAR!!! Detonation is GONE.

I hated to remove the K&N system - I really liked the throttle response - but the XCal 2 91 OCt tune is too strong to pass up.

Anyone else experience this problem!? Any other ideas?

I have heard of this happening to people on other forums...I'll see if I come across anything this evening for you.

I second that. I've read something about it on ModularDepot.com

If it's a known problem then why hasn't the tune been changed by whoever loaded the Xcal? You shouldn't be expected to shelve a $300 bolt on to make use of an easily modified tune.

As soon as I was informed about this problem, we had a fix for it but his car is away for the winter....this topic is long over and the issue was resolved a while ago.

Rather than trying to stir the pot, please be informed of the situation. Myself and the customer have been in contact many times regarding this issue.

neither you nor skidad62 said that you resolved the issue with a new tune, so how are we supposed to "please be informed of the situation.".

Trashman asked the question based on the info that was given. Seems simple to me.

So it now works with the K&N?

When we spoke, his car was going away for the winter and he said we will fix it come spring time....the issue has been addressed and will be taken care of come spring
