Diagnose my problem....

Jen and I are coming back from the doctors today and we decided to make a U-turn and come back to check out something.

When I turn around and am backing up, my damn shifter gets stuck in reverse. A friend of mine and I managed to get it back into place after some reversing and coaxing.

The car drives just fine now. I think it's a problem with the shifter (it's stock).

Shifter or tranny problem??

Have you tried it without the boot on? I know with my Turbocoupe the console where the boot goes onto was broken and moving around and we had a hard time getting it in and out of gears with it on.. took it off and had no problems. If it's not the boot, maybe having it off could help find the source of the problem.

I have extremely limited manual experience (stalling the car up the driveway 2 times) so it may not be much help.. but worth a shot.

That one is a hard call, can't think of what could happen to that style shifter where it could jam like that unless something external like the boot (as suggested above) was bunched up or perhaps the shifter is loose on the trans. Might also be one of those flukey things that might never happen again.

you might want to check your tranny fluid

I took the console appart while waiting on the side of the road. Even with the boot removed, nothing.

The tranny fluid is new and was replaced when I had my clutch installed about 600km ago.

Well, its not a fix, but I can say I know what you are talking about.

If I put my car in 4th when I'm stopped, it won't come out. I found this out the hard way by accident. Launching in 4th is not fun. It will stick every time, the tranny fluid is new and topped up, its done this since I bought the car, tranny is a rebuilt, probably something put in wrong.

They can be weird beasts :)

'99 GT have a 3650??? If yes, my call is a bent shifter fork.

T-45.

And, it's been fixed. A new Tri-Ax solved the problem.

shift

I can tell you from experience, alot of tranny guys think that gear oil in a tranny is a good thing, well its not the hotter the tranny gets the harder it is to shift gears, just use automatic tranny fluid in your manual.
