Fluid Questions - Transmission and n Rear Differencial

I'm looking at changing them when i get my car back out and had a couple questions about them.

first - the Rear Diff Fluid:
How much do i need to fill (its an 02 gt) and is there a specifit Weight or any additives that will help it work

second is the Transmission Fluid - i got a short throw shifter and want every advantage to make it feel the smoothest possible.
what should i llok for when getting new transmission fluid? and how much will my car take.

can you recommend any brands for each?

do you still have your owners manual? should tell you everything you need to know in there, except what brand you should use.
royal purple is supposed to make good fluids. but it is rather expensive.

Not sure how reliable your source is. T5's only take 2.6-2.7L...

I put Mobil 1 ATF in my T5 :)

when in doubt use the manual...if you can find it..if not you can get one off e-bay very cheap usually..well less then it would cost to get one from Ford that is.

yup, or even better, go to Canadian tire and pick up a Haynes repair manual.
that way if you ever need to fix it, you have all the info you need, at your fingers. :tup

K - i kno i can use the manual - i just wanted peoples personel opinions, and thought i'd ask how much fluid it takes, just while i was on the topic.

Buy three "bottles" of the intended fluid, that should be more than enough. You have a few options when it comes to fluid, and the type of fluid will really determine if you will need to purchase some "friction modifier" as well. Basically, most of the good Synthetic differential fluids (like Mobil 1, Amsoil...etc) already have a Friction Modifier in them, so there is no need to add any more, if you do, your Traction-Lok will not function correctly, and can/will slip excessively. If you are using conventional fluid, you will need to purchase Friction Modifier, which is available over the counter at Ford for a couple of dollars.

I don't know about your tranny, but a T5 holds 3 litres of fluid approximately. I personally used Mobil 1 ATF in mine, but there is apparently a special ATF formulated specifically for manual transmissions and is made by Royal Purple, its called Synchromax and is apparently the best to use from what I've heard.

Basically, use any high-quality synthetic fluid and you should be fine though.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the help there. where would i buy the Mobile 1 ATF from?
i looked in my manual and it said to get:
3.8 Litres of Synthetic Mecron ATF for transmission

i went to Ford and the guy gave me SAE 80W 90 for Rear Axcel Lubricant. thats the stuff for the V6 Rear end. so i got the wrong kind..gotta go back.

and it says to get SAE 75W - 140 Synthetic.
and add
