well its kinda up to you on what you want to do first. gears is a good start just for the fact it will wake the car up and seem like you gained alot of power. gear selection can be a pain in the ass as it depends on what you wanting to do to the car. ( sounds like the exhaust stuff eh) the lower the gear the less youll want to travel highways for long times as you gas milage will blow chunks and with your new exhaust , either you will hate the sound or love it. best thing to do is google dynomax , flowmaster , borla , slp exhaust systems , magnaflow and go on their web site for the exhaust your lookin for.they have sound clips on most of them so you can see what noise you want to make with your stang. you tube is good too. :tup

So my dad and I talked a bit more today, and I guess he has actually recently (past 4-5 years) change some things on the exhaust system. It has a new muffler, and some changes the exhaust system after but not including the catalytic converter.

There is also a fairly new carburetor- a holley (though not certain which one, the receipt is in the glove box of the car and not right here.)

But it doesn't have a true dual exhaust.

Any there any specific shorty exhaust headers you guys would suggest?

well ford racing makes some , not sure how much but i figure about 300 ?
mac makes some but ive heard of fitment issues. some fit nice and others are a real pain
bbk makes some not sure on price.they are really nice.
jba but these are high end headers and about 600 minimum.
steeda might have some but im not sure. they have a sponsorship here , you might want to check them out too.
headman headers from the states is 159 but in canada id say 260 ish.

as for recomending i would say bbk.

great. I'll have to do that. I'll check there, and I'll check the mustang shop.

Stang Illusions 5.0L Dec 7, 2008 10:04 PM

Well don't let them talk you into MAC. MAC's are not very good very cheap.
I would do BBK shorty's great header, and seen the quality :)

You say its not true dual?? Does it come into single after the headers and split into duals at the back?
