fuel and winter storage Question
 

So I am running a roush s/c on the 5.0L I have been running 94 octane fuel from Husky. I was told recently that the ethanol blended fuel will break down after sitting for 6 months. So what are my options for storing over the winter ? and I am I doing damage to the engine and or s/c running ethanol blended fuel ? Husky and mohawk are the only gas stations that offer that high of octane. I also herd that a 100+ octane race fuel doesn't store very well either and will break down as well.

If your vehicle wasnt designed for ethenol I'd steer clear. As for storage, use stabil before you put the Mustang away and you'll be fine. :tup

Keep away from ethenol no matter what.I use to burn it and was getting 100 km less per tank.I switched to another gas supplier and my mileage is up again.As far as storage, add gas stabilizer and take your stang for a run to fill the lines then put her away.:)

also shell 91 v power does not have ethanol

I've run Husky 94 octane in all of my vehicles without any issues. I thought all fuel in Canada contained 10% ethanol.

I talked to a guy at husky all 87 octane fuel contains 10% ethanol. Only husky and petro can have 94 oct with ethanol.
he said to check owners manual if the 5.0L is alright to have ethanol. Also I talked with a texh guy at roush and they said no problems running ethanol blended fuels with there s/c and would not have warrenty issues. the most important is the the higher octane fuel is best. But they both said to store the car with 91 octane fuel if not driving for 6 months. Roush also said not to put any stabilizers in the fuel would cause problems with the spark plugs.

One more thing the guy at husky (not the gas jockey) from DT calgary said huskys refiner is in prince george bc sao they do not truck from there to here. All fuel in Ab is from one of the three refineries in edmonton so basicly all the gas stations on ab get their fuel from the same place the only difference is the additives that are put in for each individual company. He said bad fuel does not come from ufa or no frills etc but how each individual gas station services their holding tanks. All big copertate stations have rules to follow where as the smaller mom and pop stations might let things slide a bit due to extra costs.

Choosing the right fuel
use only unleaded fuel or unleaded fuel blended with a maximum of 10% ethanol. do not use ethanol (E85),diesel.methanol,leaded fuel or any other fuel. the use of leaded fuel is prohibited by law and could damage your vehicle. your vehicle was not designed to use fuel or fuel additives with metallic compounds, including manganese-based additives.

note: use of any fuel other then those recommended may cause powertrain damage, a loss of vehicle performance, and repairs may not be covered under warranty.

Octane recommendations
your vehicle is designed to use regular unleaded gasoline with pump (r+m)/2 octane rating of 87. some stations offer fuels posted as regular with an octane rating below 87, particularly in high altitude areas. fuels with octane levels below 87 are not recommended.
do not be concerened if your engine sometimes knocks lightly. however if it knocks heavily under most driving conditions while you are using fuel with r=the recommened octane rating, see your autherized dealer to prevent engine damage.

octane recommendations (5.0L v8 engine)
you vehicle will run normally on 87 octane fuel without damaging the engine, but premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 (r+m)/2 or higher is recommended for best overal performance.

So myu question now is why is ethanol bad for the car ? what has be the experience of everyone one this forum with the use of ethanol and non ethanol fuel.

We have been running the husky 94 octane fuel since installing the s/c and have put on around 7500 km and have had our foot on the peddle more then not. And have not had any issues so far. The biggest problem that i can see is the storage of a vehicle with ethanol in the tank. im not a scientist but from what i understand is that ethanol accumulates water over time. If i am wrong I hope some one with more knowledge will clear this up. :)

In a recent road trip, every station I stopped at in the US had 10%Ethanol in the fuel.

As far as stabilizer fouling spark plugs, I've been using Stabil now for the past 6 years using 91 Octane with zero issues.

^ what are the octane ratings at that shell station ??
