gutting cats

has anyone done this? i want to buy a new mide pipe, but the old lady wont let me until we pay off debts and get a house, until then i was thinking of gutting away. its an 02 gt, so im pretty sure there are 4 cats. then i would have to make/buy some mil eliminators.

i would never ever gut the cats, i know lots of people who have with terrible results. you end up creating a lot of turbulance in the exhaust flow if you do and even if they do flow better you loose a lot of torque.....plus if etesting is a consideration forget about passing without them

i have never seen that price, maybee for a fox body. got any links?

I had all 4 cats gutted on my old fox body with flowmster mufflers.

On my 2002 gt I took off the 2 bottom cats and reaplaced it with pipe costed $120. It improved the sound alot with the flowmasters. Thats the best thing to do if your on a budget IMO, but dont bother if you have stock mufflers.

If your in the area (i dont think you are) I will be selling the pipe with the 2 cats taken off in the spring which would be a direct replacment to yours cuz there the same. If you want it let me know, I will let it go for dirt cheap.

well i live in alberta, so shipping would be a bit. if you gut the rears, do you still need mil eliminators? or is it ok cause of the first cats? and i have a magnapack catback.

Yes you would need MIL eliminators even when gutting. The 02's depend on the heated cats for a proper reading. The car won't run right without the 2 front cats unless you have eliminators.

You could do what SlowstangGUY said, (removing the two rears) or you could just get the eliminators and Gut away! Gutting does have it's benefits though.

ie. visual inspection by whatever environment police you have over in Alberta.

well as far as i no there are no emissions in alberta. i was just looking for a little more sound and hopefully a little more power. i would buy a midpipe but im buying a new house soon so money is going to be tight for ummmmm 25 years.lol no but seriously is gutting all 4 or the back 2 worth it if i am not getting a midpipe soon?

also how would you gut it? pull mid pipe off and beat the piss out of it with a pipe and hammer?

dont gut them!

have them taken off and replaced with pipe.

You wont need MIL elim.'s

that way you can still pass emissions and if you get pulled over you still have 2 and should be ok
