Help removing Tie-rods
 

Anyone have any tricks to remove a tie-rod from a spindle, so far i've tried the tie rod removal bar, didnt work, tried a pully retractor style, the legs folded, so obviously didnt work, tried soaking in in penetrating fluid and repeating all of the above, didnt work, tried taking a hammer to the top of it, didnt work. Anything else anyone can suggest? im out of ideas and i absolutely need to get it off with wrecking it. Also on that note, how much deflection can tie-rod/steering assembly take. My problem is i need to drop the front control arm to get the coil spring out. Any advice greatly appreciated.

If you hit the top-it's probably junk, you've likely mushroomed the threads. To remove you use a big hammer and hit the spindle where the toe rod goes through it will come off.

Maybe also a little bit of heat?

Heat will usually destroy the inside of the joint, I've never had to use heat, a good few hits with a hammer will "shock" it out of the spindle-it's a taper fit.

Ive put a couple of hard hits on the tie rod with my hammer. Gonna move up to the hammerside of an axe next rockon:

Well i was just thinking if he beat the out of it already and tried a pickle fork, and it is still not out, it is probably time for new ones any how,

^Yeah I'm thinking they will need to be replaced as well, but you cannot put heat on the spindle and then hit it as it will deform the taper and the tie rod will never seat properly. So it will likely melt the inside of the joint and render the spindle useless as well. Like I said, I've never had to use anything but a hammer-hitting where the tie rod goes through the spindle.

I wasn't thinking ALOT of heat, just a bit to expand it.


i know i had to put the pickle fork in and hit it 10+ times with a hammer as hard as i could for it to break loose.
