Hood Liner

Has anyone with an S197 Mustang taken their hood liner off?? Pros/Cons to doing this. Figured engine would run cooler with it out but afraid heat might peel paint.

I have always heard that it is hard on the paint on the hood but I have torn them off some of my older cars and never had an issue. I probably wouldn't gamble on a new car though.

hood liners are mostly for quieting down the noise from the engine, iv seen lots of aftermarket hoods on all kinds of cars and trucks with out any paint problem. I got a friend with a 1996 Chevy Camaro with a bb454 in it. His after market hood is all steel and even with all of the over heating issues hes had, the paint has never been affected, it took him a set of headers and an after market all aluminum rad with duel fans to cure his heat problem and not once has he has any paint problems with his hood.

A few of my fellow limer's have removed the hood liner and custom painted the underside of the hood. No one has had any heat/paint issues.

I have an 05 that's supercharged, I removed the liner because I tried to clean it and it simply fell apart... I have had no problem with the paint or the vinyl stripes due to heat... If you want to remove the ugly stock felt liner and replace it a aftermarket liner a nice one can be found here Click
Cheers

Hahaha those numbers should be reversed at the very least. That's why you have no miles, you spend too much time on here.

and until resently in the garage. I have decided to just use Meguires quick detailer for the rest of the season, mind you I will not pile on the k's

I haven't tried that yet. I have used Turtle Wax Ice a few times and it works not too bad.

SNAKEBITE 07-07-2011 11:28 AM

I suspect the detailer is even quicker, once you polish/wax your car give it a try
