How do I get rid of my DRL's??

I've looked everywhere, does anyone know how to disable the day time running lights in a 1990 Fox?

I just want to be able to run my amber signals and park lights when it starts to get dark, I think it looks mean.

Anyway, any help would be awesome.

Blackheart4355 08-23-2010 12:06 PM

Sorry,

Disabling them is illegal. Once the requirement for them was made law, the car MUST have them.

DonkeyPunch 08-23-2010 02:08 PM

I realize its illegal...

It hasn't stopped me from not running them in all of my other cars.

I've never been pulled over or even questioned about it, I live in a smaller city, DRL's are not high on the list of priorities.

But I'd still like to know how its done.

Blackheart4355 08-23-2010 02:54 PM

Well,

Considering with US cars imported into Canada you have to take them to the dealer to get them turned on, I suspect you'd have to do the same thing. And as it is illegal to run the car that way, I suspect that a dealer would refuse to do it...but I could be wrong.

Blackheart4355 08-23-2010 02:54 PM

Oh and as you are in NB, your car won't pass your yearly inpections without them.

VAEM 08-23-2010 06:04 PM

I do know how to do it .... but I believe a moderator providing advise on a forum to illegally modify a vehicle would reflect negativly on the forum itself. Honestly, leave em on. It does look mean without em, but it's a safey issue. Car won't look mean at all crumpled up on the side of the road. Better safe than sorry.

Blackheart: YEARLY inspections .... wow, that's BS! A money grab if I ever heard of one.

Blackheart4355 08-23-2010 06:44 PM

Actually VAEM,

in the maritimes it's a good thing..keeps the unsafe rust buckets off the road..esp in NS. It actually is a bone of contention with garages though because..as of 06 anyways it takes about an hour to do the inspection but the province, NB anyways only charges $25. So garages were loosing money in doing them. Having worked law enforcement in NB...to say the police in NB aren't looking for it is just untrue..the Mounties..who police most of the Province look very hard for any reason to stop vehicle safety violations and ensure they are corrected. So to advise on how to unhook or disable this manditory safety feature would be irresponsible for any member of this board..and could lead to prosecution if this member caused a collision due to the DRL's not working..just my $0.02

VAEM 08-23-2010 07:32 PM

^^^ I agreed with you about the safety issue in my last post. Without a doubt.

As for illegal modifications ... As I already stated, I don't endorse illegally modifying your vehicle in any way and I can safetly say that the forum doesn't support illegal activities either. Members, please review the following thread for additional clarity:

https://www.cmoc.ca/forums/f15-announcement9/ .... specifically,

....... you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-orientated, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

BUT ... and it's a big BUT .... I do think yearly inspections of all registered vehicles in NB is a complete waste of time - not only for the shops but for citizens as well. A car is not going to go from perfectly safe to a complete rust bucket in a mere 365 days. Maybe something more reasonable would be an inspection every 2 years at the same time your emmissions test is required. At least the car is in the shop anyways. And I would recommend a "break in peroid". A brand new car is not unsafe by any means - so why inspect it a year later. NB doesn't have a bad policy, just overkill in my opinion.

^^^ But, I am rambling and this is a topic for another thread.

Sorry Donkey Punch, gonna have to lock up this thread (not so Blackheart4355 doesn't have an opportunity to respond), but becuase CMOC requires no posting on the violation of the law and allowing a response to this thread would be allowing exactly that. Regards.
