How I became a Mustanger

By the time the summer of 2016 rolled around I'd been behind the wheel of a Challenger R/T for almost seven years. Along the way I'd modified the R/T quite a bit, including the addition of an Edelbrock supercharger kit that brought it up to 506 horsepower and 501 torque.

I guess I was bitten by the seven-year itch, though, because I started hunting around for something new. I had looked at some GT350's, and was mulling over that idea when the salesman I had spoken with called to say they had just received a trade-in I might like. And there on the showroom floor was a 2011 GT500. The first owner had sunk a ton of money into this car, including a big Kenne Bell blower that produced over 900 horsepower. The custom wheels alone cost a small fortune. I couldn't find a flaw on this beast.

Some negotiating resulted in a price I could live with, which left one hurdle: could I get it in my underground garage, with its steep ramp? And what do you know - it wouldn't go; trying would have torn off the chin spoiler, for a start, and who knows what else would have hit bottom. I realized then that I wouldn't be able to get a GT350 in my garage, either.

So I hung in with the R/T until June last year when, on impulse, I pulled into another dealership when I spotted some GT's on the lot while driving by. And that's when I first met my 2017 GT with PP in its handsome Lightning Blue suit. Just one hurdle: that garage ramp. A test run in a different GT (with auto transmission), driven by the sales rep, showed that I had about half an inch to spare under the spoiler (talk about a close call - I guess I won't be lowering my GT).

It may not be a GT500, but I couldn't be happier with my GT. In fact, I much prefer the GT's ride; the custom suspension on that GT500 was so hard I swear I felt bumps driving over lane markings. And really, what was I going to do with 900+ horsepower?

I drive veeery slowly entering my garage.

Welcome, its all about angles with these lower front ends. I am sooooo careful with mine. I basically know where I can go and where I cant. For me I have rubber ramps at the driveway entrance just in case. Enjoy your GT
