I know a silly oil change question

The upcoming vacation out to Windsor and back will add approximately 8000 kilometers to the odo. If I was taking the Snake I would change the oil before I left for Windsor and change it again before I left Windsor to head back to Calgary. The trip to Windsor and putting around the county while be approximately 4000ish k's.

Now the question, as the Hemi is a daily driver would you just go the 8000 k's and change it back in Calgary or change it before leaving and doing the same in Windsor before heading back.

Holy long winded question eh:P Oh duh I will be using synthetic oil

All highway driving I would go for the 8K.
JMHO

BTW: I'm doing a "little" drive to LA via as much of Route 66 as I can find and was thinking of doing that on one change. I will however look at the dipstick occasionally and IF I see any discolouration of the oil I will change sooner.

Ditto.

I would say do what the manufacturer suggests. Ford is 8,000km but not sure on Dodge.

Whatever floats your boat - if it gives you peace of mind, and for what it costs, change 'er up before you leave each time. I'd agree with the masses though, if you're running full syn, you'd be OK to go round trip and might save yourself some hassles booking it in to a place in Windsor where you might not be as familiar with the service staff. I'm sure your regular spot for oil changes in Calgary would know how particular you are with your vehicles, in Windsor, maybe not so much?

On a side note I'd like to share my oil change experience at the local "stealership". Went to the Fastlane for the oil change, got home and started reading the bill, 6 litres of 5-20 oil..........wait a minute, my owner's manual states 5 litres of 5-30 for the V6. Go outside check the dipstick and sure enough it's overfull. Back to the "experts", tell the guy it's 5-20 instead of 5-30 an he says all the new cars take 5-20, I say my car isn't new and besides it says 5-30 on the filler cap, also how about the 6 litres instead of 5, and the manual says "don't over fill", he finally admits the guy goofed up. He says 5-20 is better in the summer anyway ( I've always been told you use thicker oil in the summer) They changed the oil to 5-30 with the correct amount and I got out of there with no real "sorry", buy I did tell them too bad old retired guys have too much time and read their manual. I went online and checked specs for 2010 V6 engines and they still call for 5-30...so the guy is full of on two counts.
End of rant.....thanks for reading.

At least you are on the ball. Even for something small like an oil change I take the day off work so I can hover lol

Well it seems that you have to hover so they get it right. Pretty sad.

To me this is a no brainer..

Change before you leave for Windsor and again before you come back. This way you will optimize your fuel economy bu having a fresh oil change each time. Because we all know Hemi's like their fuel...LoL! For me it is just an added piece of mind during a long trip, esp with the warm weather they are having in ON. I'd also consider having the tranny flushed before going as well...
