K&N drop in filter thoughts.

I just got a 2011 GTCS with a 5.0 motor...I'm just looking for basic opinions weather I would see any notable gains by replacing the stock air filter with a K&N one... no other mods are on the car( couple of weeks old) K&N says there are "clear" noticeable gains with their filter over a stock one, but as the saying goes" if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is"
Thanks guys for the input, and appreciated!
Peace

They could also claim a ten mile per gallon improvement in gas mileage, but doesn't mean it's true. What do they mean by a "clear" noticeable gain? A couple of horsepower gain is "noticeable" on the moped my mom rides to her Bingo night, but probably not on your GTCS. Sounds like you're taking the smart approach and doing some research first - never fails to amaze me how guys get Mustang's and immediately start thinking on how to make them go faster!! ha ha ha

Im actually happy with the HP/torque this pony puts out,I was thinking more about maybe improving it's breathing, and I am sure K&N promises are another selling "hook" they use to move product.
I have to say tho, that there was a noticable difference when I installed a Mopar cold air intake with a K&N, but then that went on a turbo ride with just north of 400 hp.
I could feel the difference when it spooled, and the harder hit of boost, but yeah I'm not kidding myself here, which is why I asked the question.
I agree with your remark tho pony, thanks mate.

It would be basically up to you if you want to spend the cash.I like the K&N filters for the longtivity.Depending on how much you drive your stang,a once a year cleanning is good, and the filter can go on for a very long time......As long as you don't over kill the oil treatment after everytime you clean it though, your golden.Over oilling them gets the mass air sensor all covered in a oilly film which will make it read wrong.
If there is a gain,it would be little in my opinion.

agreed 1low03gt it's a good way to keep filters out of landfills, the "reuse" aspect of a K&N filter if nothing else is a good thing.
I usually re oil the filter lightly over newspapers and let it sit for a few hrs at room temps ( thinner viscosity ) by the time it's ready to be installed the amount of oil in the filter is minimal... trust me,Im not really buying this for "hp gains" if I wanted gains it be SC, exhaust, headers, ect.
The one I have in the SRT4 is cleaned yearly, that stopped at least 6 paper filters from making it to landfills, which is all good.
Thanks for the response man
Cheers

I have always put the drop in k&n filter in and I am not sure why as I have never felt any difference. Having said that I drive 99.99% of the time like gramps so. If i were you I would go the route of a cold air intake tune and exhaust and then you would certainly notice a gain. For me it's all about the wax/polish to get my car to slid through the atmosphere with a lower drag co efficient tehehe

If your looking for a performance bump the tune and CAI is the way to go as Snake said. I think AM and some others are getting pretty good gains on the new 5.0. Like 40 + WHP? If your just looking to save on filter changes than the K&N would be the way to go.

WoW, the drop in K&N I put in her has added just over 220 hp to the wheel !!!!!!!! LOL
... and if you believe that do I have a piece of swamp land I love to sell ya!
On a serious note , it sounds a lil better, down low pick up is somewhat improved and knowing I won't be contributing paper filters to any land fill make me feel better.

Best of both worlds, glad it worked out for you.

I have never cleaned one as of yet, I must learn to hang onto a car I guess.
