keep em in, take em out?

i have been really debating on whether i should swap out the cats on my slp pipe and put the race pipes in. but i dont really want the cop attention. so what do you guys think? take em out? or leave em in? aircare is happenin next month so i wont worry about that.

Bubba_Lane 04-25-2005 08:25 PM

damnit wrong section....umm move it if you can, i cant delete it. sorry about that :frown:

Retread 04-25-2005 10:05 PM

IMHO why risk the potential hassles with the man or the envirocops for the few hp gains.

ZR 5.0 04-25-2005 10:19 PM

I'm with Retread on this one...........not worth the hassle for so little gain.

Bubba_Lane 04-25-2005 10:20 PM

Clean_5oh 04-25-2005 11:08 PM

I run a prochamber and I love the sound.. I'm going to weld some fake cats in this weekend.

Don't do it, we all have to breath this air.

Bubba_Lane 04-26-2005 10:12 AM

this is true, but catylytic converters that are so small wont pass anyway, they basically just give a bit more backpressure and deaden the sound.

You know what, If you're keeping it N/A, the cats aren't really going to give you much more power when you remove them. However, if you plan on spraying the car, you can't run cats. They will clog, and basically, the car will run like ass. (On the spray)

Bubba_Lane 04-26-2005 12:24 PM

it will be n/a for a while, i dont care about power gains, i just want the sound.

Scones 04-26-2005 01:36 PM

personally i like the sound of mine with the stock catted h-pipe run open....the cops don't seem to like to muffs though. i say keep the man off your back and run with the cats...

1BADRIDE 04-26-2005 01:53 PM

Removing the cats just lowers the pitch of the exhaust and makes it a fair bit louder @ WOT.

You CAN run cats w/spray and not get "clogged" up. I've done it for 8 years with various cars with no ill effects (unless your cat is broken internally).

High flow cats have such low backpressure that it makes nearly ZERO difference in power output.

Don't give the police an excuse to fine you. Save the environment. Ride a bike. :D

My '88 black hatch has punched cats and like I said - make ZERO difference in terms of power. You're only asking for trouble.

Good luck!

Bubba_Lane 04-26-2005 03:05 PM

ummmm, so your opinion is keep them??

stock89lx 04-26-2005 03:23 PM

keep your cats.

MUSTANG GUY 04-27-2005 01:15 AM

I have an off road X pipe on my car
I say get rid of those cats

5PointOHNO 04-27-2005 02:35 AM

car is much louder without cats... sounds awesome... Look at Raf's car, nothing extravagent, well, aside from the 5.0 cammer motor, long tube headers, and YS Trim Renegade kit, and it sounds KILLER.

yeah stangs sound killer with aftermarket exhaust with no cats

I have a sound clip of my car if you want to hear it with the upr x pipe

if your not worried about the cops and emissions then deffinetly take them off or better go with an aftermarket off road mid pipe. There dirt cheap. I paid for $250 plus tax for mine brand new. The expensive ones are the ones with the cats (cuz of the cats)

btw Mark its a Paxton Novi 2000, get it right :shakeit:
