Which muffler?

5.0/manual... pipe size and muffler, what would you suggest? Any reason behind it? Its a cruiser so gains are liked, but sound is preferred. wife drives the cars also.

Thanks

for a five, i'd go with a 2 1/2" pipe with flowmaster 40's. prob a more common setup but you can't go wrong. idk if going to a 3" would help with gains too too much (2-3hp maybe?), but you never know. i ran this setup on my 383 z28 and loved it. had a nice deep tone but yet not too loud to still enjoy a decent trip. also went with X-pipe. that depends on preference.

good luck

ive had flowmaster 40's on my notches ( an 86 , 88 , 91) the can be loud or have a drone. more so with an x -pipe. if your goin for the muscle car sound you cant beat flows. if you goin for a good muscle car sound , not too noisy , only loud when you get on it ,i would suggest dynomax or magnaflows. as for gains i would leave it at 2 1/2 if you go bigger youll lose power on a stock 5.0 , unless you have big mod plans for it. but leave the 3 untill you do some power mods .IMO. :tup

Just when on the gas is when I want to hear it. So 2.5" with maybe Dynomax super turbo mufflers? That sound like a good combo?

Also have thought about dumping them after the axle, still debating lol.

Borla Pro XS mufflers are excellent. Make great power, more than any chambered muffler and are far quieter. They are one of the quietest aftermarket mufflers you can get.

yup out the back for sure , if you dump em before the axel your gonna hear it alot more. dynomax are nice , they have a little rummble at idel with an x-pipe and under hard excel it sounds mean. h-way its nice, muscle car sound but not loud. if you want to hear what each exhaust sounds like you can go on to streetfire.net or you tube and check out combos to see what you like. :tup

H-Pipe and Magna flow/bassani/ or Loud mouth
Good choice is go on youtube.com and look up the name of the cat backs your looking for.

40 series drone is gay. :banghead:

Long tubes, catted hpipe and flow masters, even 40 series 'may' be to your liking, but seriously, it can be annoying.

Magnaflow has always seemed to be cheap, but then again my experience with them was watching them fall off other peoples rides. :laughhard

Also consider that if you are doing long tube, installation is a bit more than just doing standard shorties.

Whats the plan with the car long term?

Rode with 40 Flowmasters 3000k's round trip and I did not notice them. Summer with the windows open cancels all the drone:biggrin:

I didn't notice any drone with the Super 40's that were on my truck. But that could be attributed to the odd ball set up.

y-pipe into single cat, straight into a custom collector (with a balance tube.. y with an h?), into two super 40's, then it exited straight out the back.
I miss my truck. Perhaps, I'll get another one when I can afford it... Then when I have it just right, I'll look for a 2.3 liter Mustang for an idea I have.

Sorry, I kinda drifted off topic there.
