mustang body-swap: crazy idea?

hey, it's my first post here. thought i'd fly a (maybe) crazy idea by this mustang crowd:

i've got a '65 fastback, in rough shape--basically gutted and just a body. since i want to see it on the road, it needs everything, and the comfort of a modern ride is really tempting, i'm thinking to transplant that '65 body onto a newer mustang without its body (eg. 2005-2009 model).

somebody actually did this with a '65 body to an '03 mustang, but the wheelbases were ~7" off so they heavily modified the '03 chassis. the '05 wheelbase is much closer....only a little more than an inch off. i think it could work easier with the '05 (eg. no extreme chassis mods)....still clearly a lot of work though.

here's that other project: The SN65 Project

any thoughts?

cheers,
pete

If it's not to much work and money wise it's not to expensive I think it might be a neat idea:tup

I cannot believe that someone did that, soo badass! I def think it's a cool idea if your budget doesn't die. Or your patience I suppose, definitely seems like a project to keep you occupied.

that's just downright crazy..... crazy epic!!! i've always dreamed of a '70 mach 1 with the '04 mach 1 running gear... this just proves my point that it's just sick :tup

as you guys pointed out, time and $$ are the keys....but it's cool and probably worth the wait!

It's not a carzy idea. Speedvision just aired a documentary on a shop that took a 1970 Dodge Charger body and slammed it around a 2010 Dodge Charger - BADASS. And I mean BAD-ASS! If you do decide to do this project PLEASE make a thread about it. I'd love to see the progress.

cool...i'll have to track down that charger swap.

my project won't be underway until mid to late summer, but i will let you know.

I followed that project on a site that i can't remember where now!:bleh:
Anyways,it's a cool idea.:tup

OK,

Swapping the body on Mustangs isn't possibly because they are uni-body. There is no full frame to pull it off of, unlike Chargers. You can however buy complete uni-bodies and everything else you need from places like Year One and FRPP for engines.

blackheart, i have to kindly disagree. check out the link at the top of this thread to the "SN65 project". a body swap has already been done, putting a '65 fastback onto a stripped down '03 mustang cobra.

ain't nothing impossible with metal, a way to cut it, a way to weld it, and the will to do it dude.

cheers.
