mustang shopping trip

so, yesterday, with a gps, a list of cars, a mobile internet connection, and a buddy with plates off his mustang, we took off to western ontario, shopping for a fox body mustang.

now, my budget was 5000$ max. i can already hear the nay sayers. i knew what i was into for that price range, but man, did i ever find some rafts out there, that people were peddling as "decent" mustangs. yeesh.

but, after a full day of driving, and walking away, the last one, at 18:30, was a winner. it's going to need paint. it's been painted, but not well. but, there is absolutely no bondo or filler in this car. underneath, is still original colour, and no rust. all body lines line up perfectly.

inside, it has the black interior. some stitching has come apart on the passenger seat, totally repairable. the centre console armrest has come loose, and of course the usual ashtray lid issues. other than that, its in really nice shape. carpets are mint as well.

this was a U.S. car, 2 owners in canada. it has never seen a winter, aside from last night, which it has been washed twice, and sprayed all underneath.

not much in the mod department. bbk headers, bbk intake, flowmaster mufflers, with the rest of the piping being oem. also a short throw shifter has been installed, and the trans shifts very tight. 5 lug conversion has been done, but incorrect rotors in the front are not allowing the centre caps to be popped on the rims, which are 18" black cobra style rims, with new falken tires.

drove it home from windsor with no real issues at all. stock gearing gave it great highway manners, and the cruise control works. this is an all power options car, except seats.

a new aluminum rad has been installed, but i had no heat inside the car, need to sort that out. under the hood it is pretty much spotless. valve covers are clean, no sign of ever having an oil leak, as there in no grunge anywhere.

seller was asking 4900$, after dropping from 5500$. drove it away for 4000$
for a no rust, solid car, that needs a few things, i think i did ok. and after driving it home for 3.5 hours, she's pretty well in tune.

it was fun, and we saw alot of crap out there, i'm just glad i know when to walk away.

thanx guys. as for plans, it needs paint, i have a guy coming to look, and tell me what im gonna be dealing with. it's been re painted, same colour at some point, with not a lot of care in prep.

mechanically, i'm gonna tie the frame sections, replace the shocks and struts, and change to 3:73's. after that, i think i'm gonna just drive it for the summers. with 86000 miles on it, i wanna keep the k's down, and try and keep it as clean as it is now under hood. i am going to upgrade the exhaust piping, and lose the drinking straw tailpipes, and bump them up to 2 1/2".

So, in keeping with my plans for street and a few trips to the strip, any advice? Any tips? I'm usually all for learning the hard way, but this time around I'd like to just do things once. Any help would be appreciated
