mustang winter storage
 

so, i am considering storing my 08 GT/CS in my garage this winter. any tips? some have said to put the car on stands, but, i kinda thought not a good idea with lowering springs, as this may stretch them out a bit. not sure. i was thinking of using my wheel dolleys, as they are the princess auto ones, that are rounded where the tire sits, and solid. thought maybe this shape will help stop flat spots?

anyhow, side from that, what else should i consider? the garage is only heated when i'm out there smoking, otherwise, it's a block of ice. should i pull the battery cables off? if so, should i return the computer to stock first? anything to do fluid wise?

I always change my oil and filter before storing. I put my old stock wheels and tires on so I don't worry about flat spots. If you put your jack stands under the axle and at the right place under the front end I don't see how you could stretch the springs. Oh yeah before storing I top up the tank and dump in a bunch of Stabil and then go for a run to ensure it's through the fuel system. I bring the battery in the house and store it for the winter and put the cover on.

I fill up / change all the fluids. Use Stabil for sure. No need to jack the car up or worry about flat spots - those days are over. Modern low profile tries don't flatten in the least if your just storing for one winter. Clean the car and cover with a car cover. DO NOT start the car every once in a while over the winter - its the WORST thing you can do. Disconnect the battery and store it inside over the winter - but not on the concrete floor of your basement. If you smoke in your garage I might also recommend leaving a box of the old arm and hammer in the car to soak up any odors. That's it that's all. Been doin it this way for years and I've never had a problem.

Buy why are we talking storage so soon ... Its only August. Talk about a buzz kill. :)

Winter Storage????? Its too early to even think about that.

Change the oil. Fill the tank and remove the battery. You can use fuel stabilizer if you want but it's really pointless since gas shelf life is much better than it use to be. It's a myth about storing a battery on concrete. It won't harm it in any way. And yeah, flat spots on tires are a thing of the past.

but for me i use seafoam for fuel stabilizer, and this year im taking off all my lights and re-sealing them !

Plus for myself i put cardboard under the stang,and for under the tires i put styro foam with a piece of cut to size plywood on top to keep the stang from touching the concrete.I also put bounce sheets in the interior,and trunk.

Stabil and clean pull battery

I never pull the battery off mine but I do hook up a trickle charger to it.
Keeps the battery healthy.

Also, some advice to you if you do pull the battery.
I am assuming that your car is not a convertible (hard to tell from your avatar).
If it is a coupe then you notice when you open the door the window drops down a little and pops back up when you close it.

If you take the battery out then do not fully close the hood of your car after you do. Just leave it down but not fully latched.
If you do close it fully then when you go to open the car door the window will not drop down so you can get into the car. I think you can still force the door open but I have seen this issue on the boards and some have issues afterward.

+1 for the bounce sheets. Also a good wash and and coat of wax!!
