Need to replace battery?
06 Mustang GT conv, 50K, 5 years. I used a heated seat during the winter and exhausted a couple of times. Now I will have a dead battery if I leave the car for 3 days, e.g. this long weekend.
Shall I replace the battery? What's the best replacement/brand for this? Thanks Jirong |
Trickle charger might work. I had a problem last week were I played the radio with the engine off and killed the battery. After I shut the accessories off I managed to restart and let the mustang run for about 10 minutes. Afterwards I put the trickle charger on the battery until the next morning, then took the mustang for a long cruise. When I got back home everything seemed to be back to normal (computer read out etc.)
I did price out a new Ford battery at $171.95 + gst. The key appears to not let any accessories run unless you have the engine running, especially so if your mustang sits in the garage during the winter without the benefit of long cruises to recharge the battery system. |
I would replace with a Ford battery and depending on how may times you have depleted the battery, it may not be salvageable

Five years is pretty much it anymore, not a bad go for a battery these days. As far as brand goes, depends on what you're looking to spend, but direct replacement is good as any, so yet again, I agree with Snakebite's choice.

Yes, replacement with a Ford battery as an OEM part would seem practicable.

The oem replacement is fine.
My original stock battery started to lose charge over this past winter, and i kept it unplugged, but triclke charged it a few times, but still barely holds,so i went with another oem myself seeing that my original one is 8 yearsold, and thought that was a pretty good life for a battery, and now i am hoping i can get 8 years out of this new oem one. |
What about the light weight battery's that AM and others sell, anyone have exp. with any of those? just wondering. Not sure but they may cost more.
