need rumble

my neighbours will think I'm nuts but I'd kind of like a little more "umph" to my exhaust. What would be a good route to go?

Flowmaster is the name I always hear about when talking about my Mustang to other owners. Good idea?

Mrs. SCNISTER 10-25-2004 05:38 PM

Flowmaster might be a little too much for you in terms of sound. You may want to consider Magnaflow as they tend to be deeper.

BTW, any pics of your GT that you can share with us? :D

um, yea.....my neighbours and family would think I was nuts with an exhaust like that.....although I'm sure it sounds very soon :p

2tone_93gt 10-27-2004 11:07 AM

flowmasters get old quick!!!

Droney noise and certain RPMS, loud..and even louder if you get something like the 2 chamber 40 series.

IMO,flowmaster is all sound and no go ;)

89LXBlack 10-27-2004 05:25 PM

I'd say Magnaflow if you don't want the extreme noise. You can get a nice deep tone so you don't piss off your neighbours

Flowmaster Super 40 + Magnaflow X-Pipe with Highflow Cats would sound amazing!! :D

NXGHOST 10-28-2004 08:00 AM

I have used Flowmaster in the past and recently went to MAC due to Flowmasters bad fitment. I also wanted a different sound. I am glad I went with MAC! The system was very adjustable for a grea fit and sounds great!

Borla cat-back is the way to go IMO.

It screams at WOT...but she's real liveable at low rpms...won't make your neighbours want to throw rocks as long as you're not hitting 6000 when you go by.

Stainless too...so although it's a bit pricey...it'll last the life of the car.

If you've got more to spend..go with a stainless catted x-pipe (Bassani or Magnaflow)...it'll give you a few HP to boot. :tup

AIRRIDE 10-29-2004 05:00 PM

the magnflow is good exhaust

mto502 10-29-2004 07:19 PM

I have Flowmaster 2 chambers and they do drone at about 2000 rpm but I like the sound with the X-pipe.
I've also read mnay good things about Spintech mufflers. I don't know anything about them though.

Sounds good, thank you and the rest of you for your advice. Looks like I have some serious thinking to do. :)

Mrs. SCNISTER 10-31-2004 08:39 PM

Something else to consider....there's a muffler company called "Flow Sound" and they have the same warranty, same look and same sound as a Flowmaster, yet much cheaper. :)

Should've seen my last run down my street before I parked her for the winter...it was a lovely orchestra of tires, high pitched exhaust and blower whine.

They've got a few months to cool off. :D

I think I might give Magnaflow a shot. I heard flowmasters on another GT like mine and I think it was too much.

I have the Flowmasters and yes they are a bit much.

Thinking of going back to stock for a while!

Somebody call? :D But seriously, I went from Flowmasters to Dynomaxes and I like the sound a lot better. They're less noisy (no more city buses sneaking up on me) and sound better.

Flowmaster outflows Dynomax, but at the cost of noise and reduced back-pressure; on my street-driven car (302-4V with long tube headers) the added back-pressure actually seemed to gain me some low-end torque. Or I imagined it. :dunno

89LXStang 11-05-2004 05:58 PM

I've got 2 chamber flowmasters.Hey the neighbors love'm. :moon

I run Dynomac Race bullets'. They sound like a constipated rhyno. Its like having no mufflers, but I need the no chamber design for my setup. If I had my choice and no money limitation I would choose the Borla XS series. There have a nice mellow sound, loud but not overbering, and NO droning. They are about 220 a muffler. If you want loud, go with the Borla XR-1 Race muffler.

BlackGT 11-08-2004 12:13 PM

I dont like buying life of the car exhaust. Stainless is nice but unless you have an unlimited budget you are stuck with the sound for the life of the car to. Dynomax turbos :tup

03WhiteGT 11-14-2004 06:44 PM

Well guys, I decided on the Magnaflow's. They're very nice. Quiet at idle but really lets loose at WOT. Thanks for the tips.
