Ran the SVO ***ADDED SOME VIDS!!***

Had an ok day. Changes were: the 8.8 w/ 3.73s, 25 PSI boost, 27* timing locked in the dizzy w/ spout unlugged, and ran my vane air meter open w/ no filter. A/F on the wideband was too lean, 12.0-12.4:1 but im out of injector as it sits, and was running a base fuel pressure of 55 PSI [hose off] so I took my chances I guess. My fuel pressure under boost was 80 PSI flyin down the track. Still was using the Sunoco 112, and.. seeing how as on the ragged edge this thing was, i REALLY shoulda bought 7 gals of VP C16 and used that.. It bothered me all week after I bought the 112. I've noticed that stepping up a bunch in octane WILL affect A/F ratio and I get richer on the wideband w/o any adjustments other than thenew fuel. Oh well, live and learn [you'll see why in minute]

The track was slippery. I dunno why they don't try a lil [ALOT] harder to prep... Alot of people seem pretty unhappy anymore with St Thomas. I like the place.. but will admit, it's slippery there. Two hours to drive there and spin kinda gets expensive...

Anyways, First pass:

Got right back in line... [was mad that I spun about 150 feet out and into 3rd..]
2nd pass:
http://www.mnsi.net/~ohreally/new_times2.jpg

I lil slower.. even w/ a better 60' which was weird. Anyways, at this point I am poking around under the hood while it's coooling down and I notice the overflow tank is about 2 inches higher than normal. Pop the lid, and there's real thin foamy layer on top. Didn't look menacing but i think I knew... car is still idling/running good, 20" of vacuum at idle, and NO smoke at all and oil looks perfect. Soo.. WTF... let er cool and give er hell one more time. [I knew the H/G was hurt already but it was minor and I had a trailer]

Called it quits after this, as I got back to the pits and popped the hood, took the cap off my over flow and there's a constant stream of bubbles as the car is idling, and rev it to 2K and hold it and the bubbles become a constant swirl of water... Car STILL is running great, no smoke, oil clean, 20" of vacuum at idle etc.. wasn't smoking down the track either..

Oh well, I cant complain. Motor's 21 years old and untouched. 109.98 MPH out of the stock 2.3 motor, stock head/cam, turbo, injectors EEC etc.. is not too bad. With that kinda MPH I could probably be somewhere in the 12.30s or .40s at least on a 1.7 60 foot.

Nice job and hey we will see you next spring :tup

wow... very good.

when you put it that way 21 year old 4 cyl puttin out 110mph.... thats pretty damn good!!!! Try that with a honda DOHC VTEC Trubo etc...

sure you will get 110 mph, BUT,,, will it even be running in 21 days?

Schlodes 10-31-2005 09:21 AM

Thanks....

And stupid as this is gonna sound, it's looking like it was my original rad cap is what is causing all this havoc into the overflow. :banghead: I had the car running yesterday for a half hour and NO problems. Took it out last night for a bit of a ride, even layed into it some just to get some cylinder pressure, and when I got home there was a bubble or two then as it sat and idled, nothing. If you push on one side of the rad cap, it gurgles... no overheating, no smoke whatsoever...

So, not to write off a problem just yet, but gonna do a compression test and coolant system pressure check this week, and if it checks out ok I can get some passes from a buddy to run for free at Milan... :tup

I wanna see if I can turn this 109.9 into a 12.40

tear u a new 1 10-31-2005 10:36 AM

Hey guys, here's the videos of my runs from the 29th of October :) Lemme know what you think.

12.79 pass..
12.82 pass..
12.74 pass..

Actually, Lemme know if they worked - [56K again.. :( ].

Scones 11-11-2005 01:48 PM

yup, they all work. with that 4 bange T5 and the 3.73 gears that first to second is sooooo short. can't wait to see it with two-step or C4 to get it off the line better....
