Re-learning to get in and out of my car

I've been running autoslalom for a few years, now my plan is to step it up a bit and run solo-sprints and the lapping days at my local road course. To help ensure I keep myself in one piece, just finished installing a Maximum Motorsports 6 point roll bar. Went in very nicely, the door and harness bars are removable.

Paint, padding and a harness to come!

looks good man, :tup
was it a hard install?

Roadkiller 03-25-2006 06:02 PM

I did "fetch and carry" work. The gentleman who actually did the install is an experienced fabricator who has built (and driven) many race cars.

From the time I pulled up to when I left was 10 1/2 hours. He was EXTREMELY impressed with the kit. He had recently put something similar in a Miata and had basically to redesign the whole thing. This kit fit as advertised. The support for the driver's side door bar was off by a few degrees, but we worked around that easily. The most difficult part was actually getting the rear panels back in (he was very picky).

So with someone who either knows what they are doing or is handy around tools, and with someone with a willing back, it'll take a day. Not bad.

Great, another 14.9 second mustang with a roll cage... I know you're lapping the car and all, but it just seems so wrong!!

hey..... safety first... then speed...looks great buddy http://gprime.net/board/images/smilies/thumbup.gif

End of backstretch = 175kph (give or take), leads to turn 7 which goes up a hill to the right then quickly back to the left (turn 8). Potential for roll over? .... Turn 1 comes off the front stretch (approx 140 kph) and goes OFF CAMBER downhill to the right .......

Feel free to come to my track and tell me I'm paranoid, I don't care what the car runs in a 1/4. I'm not being sarcastic, just different strokes for different folks. I hope I NEVER need to use it, but if I do once, it'll have been worth it. Like "Capncobra" says, safety first.

Nice looking cage :tup

It doesn't even look like it gives up much in the way of backseat room. The front must be brutal to get into though! (when bars in place)

My car is part of the 14 second caged Mustang club, it's good to have another around :D

Someday I want to come up and run Mosport with you guys! Maybe we can get a whole run group made up of 14 second caged 'stangs

Getting in: stand facing forward, insert right leg, then head, body and finally left leg. I'm getting used to it.

You're right, the back seat is not significantly less usable than it ever was except that getting into it is impossible with the door bars in place. I've taken the passenger side bar and the harness bar out for daily use. Because the mount on the hoop was off by a few degress on the drivers side, putting that door bar in is a pain in the a$$.

June 28th, Mustangs at Mosport
July 3rd, Mustangs vs. F-body Autocross

You know you want to come... :D

Roadkiller 03-26-2006 08:45 AM

You're right! I've been following the development of the M. vs F-body autocross on the GTAMC site (I'm registered there as "Roadkiller", which I'd like to change my name to here also).

Running at Mosport on the 28th then the autocross on the 3rd would make for a heck of a week! Almost worth the drive from Halifax!
