rustt!??!?!?!
heyy guys, I was hoping maybe someone out their has a write up on how to get rid of a rust hole... I found one in the door jam... from what I have heard alll I gotta do is make the hole bigger and get rid of all of it than weld a sheet of metal over it and paint it.. is there any other way someone else might do it ? thanks!:tup

I am no help with the tech stuff but I am a huge cheerleader so good luck with the repair
|
I'm not your guy, but pics might help or maybe a description of the size of it. Good luck !!
|
That's essentially how I'd do it. Cut the rust out, weld in fresh patch, grind the welds flat and paint. Good as new.
|
that's it, I could do that

ouch. you might find that it is more than just a little hole. you might need to refabricate the whole door jam. as soon as you start to grind you will see it is more than you anticipated. if you are looking for an inexpensive fix. cut a peice of sheet metal a little bigger than the hole. then get some panel adhesive and glue the sheet metal from the back side. wait a few minutes for it to harden then fill with body filler of reinforced fiberglass body filler. sand smooth and paint. wont last too long but will be nice for a while.

I have heard the saying "rust is like cancer" I hope you get it all

Sounds like you're doing it right. It's a lot of work but make sure you get all the spots.
|

Don't mean to sound like i am careless, or something. :( I just know what i would do if it where me in your situation. |

I agree with this. When you think there is one little spot, it is usually much bigger then what we see. Seen to many fox chassis stangs like that. If it really isn't that bad, definitely fix it right, but if that spot is really bad, i would check the whole chassis over before i would go any further. That's just me though. No matter how much you try to stop the rust, it will always come back.

If your car (mine in this case lol) has never been in the rain/snow and kept in a super dry heated garage I can assume rust will take forever to take hold. We have what is considered semi-arid type climate here so humidity is usually quite low.

Ya I forsure understand what u mean that's why I started this lol. But from what I see it's only that little spot and I'm gunna be sandblasting most of the car probably to make sure it's not gunna happen again for another 20 years hopefully lol.
I hope that's all you have for an issue for sure. Rust likes to hide. Once you do the sandblasting, you will have a way better view at deciding what to do.:tup |
^^^ exactly right.
Post more pics of the Stang post - sandblasting. |
