Sloppy Shifts - AODE

More and more I've been noticing that my transmission is getting much worse. When I'm just driving normally and only on the throttle a bit and it shifts gears the whole car bounces back and forward a few times, does this 1-2 2-3 but not into OD. When I reverse I hear a ticking noise that gets more rapid the more throttle I have on and I've also heard that ticking noise when I was at the track and braketorquing before launching and it went away a few seconds later.

I know there's a line slapping somewhere under the car that my brother insulated but I don't think this is the same thing since it only does it for a few seconds. I'm pretty sure the noise is coming from the transmission area...

Anyone have experience with this? I can either overhaul my transmission with one of those rebuild kits or I found a 4R70W from a 96 V6 in Brighton, Michigan (~40 min drive from my house) for $275US.. it only has 19,000 miles on it. Would it be worth it to rebuild the AODE or should I just go buy the 4R70W?

I probably wouldn't even if I had the money. I'd wait for the Cobra instead.

I'm frugal. Like the chaps buying the new Saleen for 64,000 the cobra is over-priced in relation to a Gt with the appropriate add ons. I am sure you know that 15,000 in mods to a 37,000 05Gt would still make it a bargain as opposed to the cobra. Take the v-6 crowd that alters their cars, part of the reason is the v-6 is cheaper upfront, insurance etc. I agree with their logic and to me it is almost a designer thing:cheers:

Depends what you can get a deal on. The only car I plan on buying new is my work car since I'll need the warrenty as the car will be used constantly during the day to get to jobs. I probably would buy an 05-10 Mustang until the next body style came out.. I plan on getting a 99-04 one for my next one.

Ah yes that makes sense. It's nice when someone eats the depreciation :tup . The only reason I purchased a new one is the Ford employees discount, which saved us over $4000 :tup

I looked up an overhaul kit for my AODE and it's $175 US + $15 US shipping so $190 US right there... plus the time to take it apart and convince my brother to give me a hand (he rebuilt his).. $275 US for the 4R70W isn't looking so bad at this point.

The problem with switching to manual (trust me, I want to) is that my parents take the car to work on occasion. Not sure how long I'll actually have the car but once I get a new one I might just put the Mustang's upper intake back on and sell the supercharger.
