Steeda catback owners...

Thinking of one for my mildly modded 02 GT. From what I've read at stangnet this seems to be a pricey Borla-made system with better-looking tips (etched with "Steeda".)

I've also read that there's little, if any drone with this setup, a massively important quality to me. I've got an MRT catted H which ratcheted up the volume level a bit already on the factory catback...any Steeda owners with a similar setup have any feedback on cabin noise levels and highway drone? My plan is to install a set of 3.73s, perhaps this spring or summer, which means slightly elevated cruise RPM. Again, any feedback on that?

Finally, both reviews I'd read reported that the tips rusted at the "Steeda" etching which is bad. Is this common on this exhaust? The car is garaged all winter and sees no salt but if the tips rust just from washing...well that's pretty bad. I figure a bit of steel wool or metal polish will get rid of cosmetic rust but I don't really want high maintenance tips.

Feedback much appreciated.

The Steeda System is Good!.. You are correct about the exhaust however I have yet to here about a problem with the tips from any of our customers?

I have yet to come across any Performance Exhaust that will eliminate the dreaded 2200 drone. The Straight thru design seems to work the best vs the Chambered.

However some are much better then others.
MAC and Flowmaster seem to have the most Drone.

In the Middle is Borla, Spintech and SLP

the Least seem to be
Bassani and Magnaflow.

I personally like the Borla Tips the best and Borla sounds pretty sweet! for price you can't beat Mangaflow unless you want the Brute SLP system!

I love the fact my Magnaflows have zero drone and some added power with the straight through design. The polished 3.5" tips are really nice too. :tup

Good luck in your search for your cat backsystem, I have never heard a steeda cat before? Read about them.

Magnaflow is also on the short list. Sean Hyland sells the Magnaflow catback for $US479.00 while Steeda.ca lists their catback at $US604.95. That's quite a difference for stainless systems with 2-1/2" pipes. I've heard the Magnaflow tip-adjustment is a bit fiddly (true?) whereas the Steeda is factory-like in the hanger placement.

I have the steeda catback. I chose it because it's a borla made system to steeda specs.

It's louder than stock at idle, but not loud at all, imo. On WOT it screams nice and deep. I have never liked flowmasters and these sound nothing like them, if that helps you.

No drone. Just deep sound that doesn't sound hollow or tinny.

Oh yah, the steeda etching on the tips rust.

im lovin my magnaflow, and yes the tips can be finnicky. but when u got em setop proper they are sweet!

my father just buy a cat back mac whit 3.5 stainless polish tip , 500$ taxe in , and souds is awsome !

The whole Magnaflow catback system took a bit of time to adjust perfectly including the tips. But it does fit really well after you're done.

I have the Steeda Catback with Dr. Gas X Pipe. This is one of the most incredible combo's I have heard. There is barely any drone at all.

The Steeda catback is made by Borla, but use different mufflers designed to steeda's specifications. It will be a wicked setup with the MRT Pipe.

Thanks for the info meister. Any comment on the issue of corrosion that anarchist describes? Can you elaborate on what you mean by "barely any" drone? When does it occur? How loud and intrusive? I know it's kind of subjective but if you could try it'd be appreciated.

Also, any particular reason why the USD cost on steeda.ca is some $USD50 higher than the cost on steeda.com?

I believe the corrosion anarchist describes is minor rust that will come off with some never dullo or chrome polish.

When etching into the metal, you are remove the protective coating and this can occur without regular maintenance. I have never had any issues on my car.

My car has no drone at all, because of the xpipe. I have heard other steeda catbacks with a very slight drone around 2200rpm. This happens for about 1 second.

I have never heard a better, cleaning, crisper sounding catback. I sell almost every brand of exhaust and prefer the steeda item because of the sound.

I had the catback on with the stock h and it was not too loud or intrusive. My current setup is tame at idle but WOT you better watch out,. Dr. Gas pipes are the loudest you can find.

As far as pricing goes, sometimes we cant have a direct conversion from US prices. I can guarntee you the best prices around

I have a Steeda catback system on my Cobra along with a Steeda catted x-pipe as well. It sounds amazing.

No drone in the cabin, as far as I can tell. :)
Nice and tame at idle - which is what I wanted, you can hardly hear it at idle.
At WOT it is loud... and throaty - which is what I wanted.

I haven't noticed any problems with the tips or anything - I use NevrDul (round blue tin) for polishing the tips and whatever part of the pipe I can reach.

anarchist 02-15-2005 01:51 PM

I only noticed the rust lately, I drive in the winter and the car is covered in salt.

02blkvert 02-17-2005 06:13 PM

I have the Steeda exhaust also with the catted X pipe and it is awesome...Have not noticed any rust yet but I don't drive it in the winter. Some drone but nothing serious.....with 4:10's it quickly goes away...revs higher and keeps away from the 2200 rpm
