Steeda Competition Springs
 

Hey Everyone
Does anyone have these Steeda Full Competition Springs on there car?
or Do you know of any one using these on there stang?

Full Competition Front Springs
• Approximate 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" lowering
• For all out road racing competition.
• Recommended for Mustangs with 351 engine or race weight of more than 3300 lbs.
• Spring rate 850-1050 lbs. per inch
• Front springs only-Use with Sport or Competition/Street rears


Unless that fits your intended usage (track only), I wouldn't recommend them, that's a pretty serious spring rate. You would need to have enough strut valving to control them as well. I ended up with those in the front of my 87 track car, with Koni double adjustable struts. It did get driven on the street occasionally, and it was very stiff.

If you're looking for best handling, a good quality coil-over conversion is probably a better way to go. It will allow you to pick a more exact spring rate for your application. Back in the early 90s, the coil-overs weren't available yet in kit form to go in 79 - 04 Mustangs, otherwise I would have gone that route myself.

Do you think that you can use the stock struts with these springs?

You could, but there wouldn't be much point in doing so. For best handling and ride, the struts / shocks need to have stiff enough valving to control the springs they're working with.

As you may have guessed, stock struts are not near enough to control 1,000 lb. springs. You won't get any benefit out of those springs by installing them the stock struts still in place, unless you really enjoy a bone-rattling ride.


edit: From your sig. pic, I'm guessing you have an 03 - 04 Cobra. If that's the case, the factory Bilstein struts wouldn't be too bad with the comp. springs, but stiffer struts would be better. What is your intended usage for the car? if it's not Solo I, Solo II, or open-track days most of the time, there's really no point to putting such gargantuan springs in the car.

I have Steeda sport springs happy with them with KYB Gr2 shocks and struts.
