If you or a friend are good at welding, get some metal, and start cutting the sized pieces needed, and patch away. But how bad are the holes? That is were you need to out weigh your options.Since the motor/trans are now out,it wouldn't take much to strip the rest, and transfer all your GT stuff to a healthy chassis.
Any pics of the holes? |

I have repaired several fox body cars with major rust issues. I is a huge undertaking. You really should completely dissemble the car and get it blasted. Regular sand blasting is cheap and won't damage the underside of the car if done properly. This is the only way to find out how bad the rust really is, also the only way to ensure good welds that don't leak. When I encounter a mustang with rusty shock towers I cut out all of the rust with a plasma cutter then replace the missing piece of frame rail with a custom sized piece of steel tubing. I slide it deep into the existing solid frame rail and weld it in place.
Even worse is when the cowl rusts near the door hinges. This area is very stressed holding up the roof and holding on the doors. I was recently t-boned hard in the drivers door of my pickup and I would say that cowl area saved my life. If your going to do this type of repair make sure your welds are good. |
thankyou 89 racer.sounds like you know your stuff wannabe
