Hello Mustang black belts!

I'm a new Mustang owner and I don't have much experience playing with a Mustang. When purchasing this vehicle, my biggest concern was winter driving. I have driven RWD vehicles in the winter for years now so I know how they handle in the winter. But I'm mostly concerned about rust issues. I am extremely afraid of rust.

For those of you who use your Mustangs in the winter, did you have any rust issues? Did you do anything specific before the winter hits? I still have my previous car (Ford Crown Victoria P71 &#128513 that I can possibly use for winter driving but I live on a military base and we can only occupy 1 parking spot. I store the Crown Vic in my parents' garage at home but if they want it gone then I'm going to have to sell it.....

Get it sprayed with Rust Check or Krown, if you have to drive it in the winter, besides a set of Blizzaks and steel wheels, its about the best you can do.

Don't think the Mustang is any better or worse than anything else out there as far as rust goes.

I'm a little concerned that Krown dealers drill holes in your vehicle to spray the product. Have you got this done before?

Drilling holes is a concern, but they use rubber grommets to seal it, and the beauty is, they get the product into the door seams inside the door.

I was nervous about the drilling too, but its no big deal, and the benefits outweigh any concerns.

Yup, had it done many times on daily drivers, and the difference, especially if you do it from day one, is amazing.

I wouldn't bother if you were parking it over the winter, but a daily driver, do it for sure.

When I sat down last Saturday with the sales manager to do the paperwork on my car he tried to sell me a rust protection package which included one of those electronic devices (which to my knowledge only work if your car is partially submerged in water constantly) AND told me of the dangers of Krown/Rust Check because of all the electronics and so on. I for one have never had a problem and in fact I don't think that these products are conductive. I plan to have my car Krown'd with my only concern being them getting product on the convertible top. I can tell you that the 2010 Sonata (purchased new in Aug '09) that got traded in had zero rust on it (other than hood chips, which had started coming through the touch ups I did over the years) and I hadn't got it done for the last couple of years to boot. I am also considering Ziebart because it doesn't ooze out constantly but I'm not sure if it will provide as good protection as the oily sprays.

Meh, much like running premium gas, theres no real wrong answer, its whatever you can do that helps you sleep at night and do the best you can to maintain your ride.

Its a whole lot more than the average motorist out there who only sees cars as transportation and could give two cares about how it looks or how it runs. lol
