Just wondering, is there any reason you wouldn't use the same paint as the exterior? Is this for rustproofing or maybe another reason?
Before the time of unibodied cars, the engine bays were semi, or gloss black. The inner fenders, and rad cradle were simply bolted together, and bolted to the firewall, and frame at certain points. Why they were painted black, i don't know for sure,....maybe it could be because it's cleanner looking, maybe to aid in the temps caused by the engine heat, who knows.
Once the unbodies took place, the engine bays became part of the chassis, reason they are partially, or fully paint matched to the exterior of the cars.

That's what I was thinking. Tremclad's probably good for that job, no need for anything fancy from a body shop, unless you're building a show car or something.
