Barnfind

Hey all,
Not my first rodeo but it is my first Mustang, it’s definitely been a while since I played with anything this old though. Looking forward to contributing/gleening . 1966 Arizona car, 200-6 3spd manual.

Kevin.

Congrats, and welcome, what's the story behind the find?

Thanks everyone,

Not much of a story on the find other than sometimes it pays off to be patient and it was in a barn. The car was posted in a Facebook ad and of course half the world was “interested”, I was rather late to the party but I messaged the guy nonetheless. Three weeks later he messages me back and tells me that I was now third in line and asked if I was still interested, I’m thinking this thing must be way worse than the pictures if all of those people have passed. Of course I said he’ll ya, just tell me where and when. Another week goes by and he messages me and tells me my number is up. The car was located on an island and required a ferry ride to go have a look, as it turns out I was the only person willing to spend a half a day of my life going to look at the car. I made an offer on the spot which was accepted. The guy still has 2 ‘65’s (both for sale) but not advertised.
Solid car, all original steel except for the floors. I haven’t poked my head under the dash yet to see how bad the lower cowl is but I suspect if the floors were pooched then it’s quite likely the lower cowl is toast too.

#66emberglo,
Very nice barn find! She looks to be in great shape, congratulations!
I just noticed your new Mustang (and your User ID) is very similar to mine
What colour is your interior? The previous owner of my car re-did the interior from Emberglo/Parchment to Black Pony interior.
I'm thinking of eventually restoring it back to the original colour-scheme.
Let me know how the work on your new barn find is progressing!
Cheers,

Wow, we’re almost twins! My interior is parchment. It’s far from perfect, it was born emberglo and then maybe resprayed some kind of greenish colour and then back to emberglo. That last paint job leaves a lot of room for improvement as it would seem like the final sanding was done with 60 grit. I guess they were looking for good adhesion. They metal is all good and original with the exception of the floors. At some point during the floor repairs there was a small fire that went as far as to burn a huge hole in the headliner. A new liner came with the car but no door cards.
the steering column must have been burned up pretty good too as it has been removed and stripped of all its parts. I’m looking for a good schematic of the column so I can figure out what is supposed to be in there and in what order.

Sorry for the tardy reply, I’ve been busy this summer but now that fall is settling in here it’s time to get back in the shop and make some progress on this old pony.
