Hello from Düsseldorf!

Hello from Germany! I am a currently-Mustangless Canadian living in the Rhineland and am delighted to have found a Canadian Mustang forum. I plan to return to Canada in Summer 2014 and finally go for my dream car. It will be a 2012 Kona Blue GT manual and I would go for some after-market changes: a FRPP suspension kit; a short-throw shifter; LeMans stripes; improved brakes; tinting; and a GT500 exhaust. A Ford Racing CAI and tune might be in the works but my main interest is handling (daily driving variety and not track) rather than increased power as the GT already has plenty. I love Recaro seats but don't like the idea of giving up stock heated seats for them and I like the stock GT wheels as well. I want a really clean look for any mods and have seen some great cars on the site. I can wait to find the right car as in the meantime I can drive my wife's too-civilized BMW sedan.

Here in Germany you see a surprising number of Mustangs, including the one in the photo which I see almost daily in the Alt-Stadt. Ford does not import them but I have seen more Mustangs than Camaros, which GM does bring in officially. Fuel is insanely expensive here but a GT or Shelby probably is no worse in consumption than the high-performance German cars.

I have been considering a Mustang since I tested a new V6 last year in Ontario and was really impressed. Growing up in the 1960s in a Ford town (Oakville), I liked the old Mustangs but never thought of getting one, although I did own a 1980 Capri, the rebadged Mercury version. So, my explanation of why I want a retro-styled Mustang is a) it looks cool but has all the modern stuff like great airconditioning, air bags and a sound system; b) it offers lots of opportunity for customization; c) it has exotic car performance without exotic car repair costs. I hope the last is true; I will have to read the Forum comments on mechanical stuff. Looking forward to the ride!
