Hello from Newfoundland

Hi everyone. Just found the site so I signed up. Living here on the Island of Newfoundland makes for a short driving season when it comes to owning a convertible but last year the wife and I ordered our 2012 vert for our 30th wedding anniversary. Over the winter I've added a few things here and there to personalize it. We basically call it our cruiser. There's only 7000 km's on it so far so we are hoping to get some good weather soon to get out in it. Here's a few pics of the car.
Hope everyone has a safe driving season.

Thank you. Yep I did the install on the wood grain. It's real Burl wood. It was purchased from carid. What you see is a two part kit. A little tricky to install. You only get one chance to do it right because when it sticks it' stuck

I was told by some I was breaking all kinds of golden rules by installing this kit in a Mustang but I'm not a real good listener and after I did it everyone who have seen it just assumed it came with the car and really liked it so what can I say :) I just needed to have it look a little different I guess.

I attached a few more photo's of it for you. I also did the striping. That's another story

OK I'll admit I'm new here so if I'm doing something wrong just let me know but I think we're all alike in saying we like seeing photo's so to keep the boredom going here for you I'll show you my remedy to that rubber antenna we have on these Mustangs.
I wanted something that looked a little sleeker so I took some aluminum round stock, chucked it in the lathe and machined this. I made allowances for an o ring to keep the water out and the reception is as good or better than before. I did etch prime it and paint it black after testing it. Just thought some might enjoy seeing this

Nice car. I noticed you have a couple extra pillar gauges. Is it Supercharged?

Thanks. Not Supercharged. I did add some bling to the engine though. There's only 7000km's on it and didn't want to arse up any warranty. I used to be a GM tech and a GM service manager one time so I know how easy it is to cancel a warranty
What you see is the Aero Force gauges mounted to the Speed Of Sound piller pods.
Here's a link to Aero Force

Thanks. I looked at it the way you do but a few Mustang owners said that if I wanted woodgrain I shoud have bought a BMW. The earlier Mustangs had wood grain though it was plastic and not real like I used but I guess it's like everything else in life. Some will like it and some will hate it. It's just the way it is.

Just the other day I seen the new Gotta Have It Green for the first time and thought I was going to be sick  I'm sure there are plenty of people that will love it.
I guess our intention was to have a cruiser not a track car so I felt the wood grain fitted the bill :)

You are correct and as I say to each their own. I personally do not like woodgrain at all but love the Gotta Have It Green.

superdutyfan 05-10-2012 07:25 PM

Nice work on the antenna and I have the three pod gauges from Speed of Sound the guysd there were great to deal with as well. As for the warranty on s/c. We have 5000 km on our car and we put on the roush r2300 s/c . I was worried a little about the warranty but being in canada like we are the years are up before the km are since most of the time we have our cars parked for the winter. But Roush will honor the power train warranty If the s/c caused the failure. But from what I read these new 5.0L are very strong and can hanlde the 8 psi of boost.

Once again nice ride and keep the pics coming :)

I didn't put much thought into a SC because my plans are to build a street rod for my next project. With the rod the sky is the limit. I doubt I'll ever even install a tune on the Mustang especially since Ford is blaming tunes for the #8 cyl issues. I also wonder if you did have a emission issue with your car would Ford say the system is altered and it's not they're problem. What happens if Roush says its Fords problem and Ford says its a Roush fault. Who sorts that out?
I don't know. As I said above. I worked in a dealership and have seen first hand how the blame game works. I'm just say'en

Thanks man. Oh I've had the mid bug for a very long time. Basically everything I own has been modded :lol. It do make it more fun. Nice looking car you got there as well. Looks fast :tup

DublDee 05-11-2012 08:02 AM

Like Chad, I'm not a fan of the woodgrain, but to be honest it doesn't look too bad in your car, and hey like you said you just wanted it to be different than others, and I like the idea of being original. As for the car itself, that thing looks awesome, and although I'm not a big fan of stripes either, again you made it work on your car. Great work, and +1 for the great pics right off the bat. :tup

Thanks guys for your opinions. We all got opinions and like the cars we drive they are all unique to us. I've always liked stripes on a car so that's why I went that way and as far as the wood grain goes after seeing it I'd never be without it. :wiggle:

SNAKEBITE 05-12-2012 06:10 AM

I don't know were I have been as I am usually one of the first to welcome the new guys. Oh so welcome. I have to say that of all the Newfoundlander's I met in the army there was only one that was a dick otherwise a great bunch from the Rock lol. Hey can I give you a great mod tip, with the wood grain I think a dark wood steering wheel would look absolutely great. Anyways welcome again and keep the posts and pics rolling in.

Thank you sir. No matter where you go there will be dickheads. There all over the place
I want to personally thank you for your military service. You are amongst Canada's best! I have a deep respect for military life and for good reason. Both my sons are are in the service. One Army (bio tech) and the other Navy (logistics) it was tough to see them go off to foreign places to do things that most of us wouldn't do but that's what separates the boys from the men.

That's the one thing I liked about the premimum GT was its steering wheel and with the electronics package it's so much fun..

On a side note. I restored a couple of old toy pedal vehicles in honor of my sons and for those who serve. If you'd like to see them I attached a few links.

The idea is to keep adding the promotions and the places they've been to them and at the end of they're service they would be like a trophy time line thingy tat they would have to display. Sorry for going off topic. :bleh:

Lord tunder'en by. A feller from NB!

Glad you liked the stubby antenna. My lathe isn't a CNC lathe so those buggers take me 1.5 hours to make. I've tweaked the design a bit as you can see in the photo. Also included a photo of me running the lathe. Family Doc says I got to much iron in my blood :lol

Wildfire,

Congratulations on the new car! Looks great!

So as a former GM tech, what is your overall impression of your Mustang, things that stick out positive and negatives?

Also, when are you takin orders for the antenna? Does it come in black aluminum? The reception remains good, right?

Again, enjoy your great lookin car!

Vapor Shelby 05-20-2012 02:25 PM

Hey wildfire wanna help with a stripe job:chacha:
Nice job pal!

Thank you much. I'm on vacation in Ontario right now so I'm a little slow responding. Sorry for that. Well when I worked for GM I naturally thought that GM was about the best there was. Yes each model they had did have there own issues but still thought of them as the best at the time.

After I left GM I started my own specialty automotive repair shop and along with getting the opertunity to work on many different brands of vehicles I also did a lot of work for our local Ford dealership. The dealership gave us that much work that when it came time to purchase a new vehicle I decided to try a Ford.
We purchased at least five Fords since then and they have been far more reliable than any GM that I have ever owned.
The Mustang is really to new to judge yet with only 7000 km's on it but it's the best 7000 km's that I've put on a vehicle to date :D

Hope your have a great long weekend over there :tup
