Hello From Saskatchewan

Hey everyone, I am new to the forums. I am trying to decide on what Mustang i would like to get. So I am trying to do as much research as i can. I have been reading that most of you park your mustangs in the garage for the winter. For me i would have no choice to drive in winter if my wife and kids are out with the family vehicle.

So if i were to get a oem set of rims and snow shoes for it, would it still be ok to drive? i see others driving around in genesis coupes and bmw's and so on so i thought it should be ok.....am i wrong? i will just have to wash it all the time to keep clean. I just can't pay that kind of payment to let it sit there for 6 months and not listen to the rumble.

What are your takes on that?
What options should i be looking at?

Thanks everyone.

I was able to park the 2005 in 2006 due to the acquistion of a used SVU. I drove the Mustang during the winter of 2005-2006 it handled very well better than the previous generation mustangs. Nokian snow tires helped as well.

ChadStang 06-17-2011 11:38 PM

With a good set of tires you will be fine to drive it all year.

SNAKEBITE 06-18-2011 01:51 AM

Firstly welcome and like other have said with snows and common sense all is good

Apocalypse Pony 06-18-2011 06:07 AM

Welcome to the site dude. No probs driving year round, nothing a set of winter tires, a bag or two of kitty litter in the trunk, and like Snakebite said, common sense and you should be good to go. What year and kind of Mustang you lookin at getting?

Simons 06-18-2011 09:19 AM

Well i was looking at getting 2009-2011 stang. Was leaning towards new so i know what it has been treated like. My big thoughts right now are either go 5.0 or 3.7 v6 and wait till warranty is up then SC it. no matter what i go with, it will have HID's for sure as an option and i'm not sure what to take on the factory stereo yet. Might put in a double din nav/dvd head unit and a nice sounding speakers/amps/small sub stereo to compliment the rumble of the engine.

I am just starting to do research as i am getting to the point where i am able to seriously think about it and go and talk to a dealership. The major thing that was holding me back was the winter time.

What are your thoughts on a 2011 with what engine option and packages?
I am the kind of guy who has a hard time deciding as the options sound good, but don't know if i need certain options over other options. i always second guess everything i buy so i always as people to see their thoughts on things to see how they look at things and see if i thought of the same thing or not.

So fire away all and let me know options and why......

Thanks everyone, and thank you for the warm welcome

2005-2009 V6 Mustangs were limited to the 4.0 litre engine. I believe factory engine improvements started in 2010 and were more aggressive in the 2011 model with the introduction of the 3.7 litre engine. Just some food for thought.

SNAKEBITE 06-18-2011 03:11 PM

Boy with the new motors it might be a tough call, good luck.

Welcome 2 the ZOO!!

1low03gt 06-18-2011 10:25 PM

Welcome aboard!I vote on new for the latest 5.0L,6 speed, and aggressive styling.:tup

Simons 06-18-2011 11:31 PM

so with the 5.0, will it be better all around as suppose to the 3.7 and a supercharger?
the 5.0 is 412hp and a SC added to the 3.7 goes to 440hp correct?
adding a sc will decrease the fuel milage worse then the 5.0?

I saw a Shelby GT500 Grabber blue on 1 of the ford lots tonight and i have to tell you, i got wood :hump: .....but the $62,000 price tagg killed that feeling pretty quick Suicide: grrrrrrr

SNAKEBITE 06-19-2011 12:41 PM

Stay out of the s/c and mileage is pretty close to normal Gt's

Simons 06-19-2011 06:03 PM

right now i'm looking at the GT's as it is a little more realistic for price range.

SNAKEBITE 06-19-2011 08:16 PM

^^^that would be my personal choice

1low03gt 06-19-2011 08:35 PM

Same here.:tup

*** UPDATE ***

Just brought home a 2013 V6 coupe premium, Deep impact blue, Auto.

Did about 1/3 of breaking just bringing it home from Edmonton lol. Picked it up with 60km's on it and parked it in the garage with almost 700km's. From Edmonton to Lloydminister it took $25 and from Llyodminister to home under 1/2 tank. Very impressed with it so far. Can't wait till i don't have to baby it anymore and can enjoy it, then mods right off the bat are Tint back windows, axle back exhaust, CAI and spacer, tune and go from there. I will post pics after i wash it it tomorrow. Went through some rainy periods today and looks bad now. Love the HID's in it too lol

Does anyone know if the little fog lights down low hid or regular? if regular, what buld? want to switch to hid's as well.

Vmax5000 06-25-2012 01:55 PM

Welcome, I'm a new mustang owner as well! I factory ordered a 2013 GT back in late March, I was supposed to get it the end of May, then the end of June and now it looks like the middle of July. I'm jealous that you have yours already, but I'm sure the wait will be worth it. Like you I am putting limo tint on the back windows. Your car sounds awesome, hope you really enjoy it.. Love to see some pics!

Simons 06-25-2012 09:23 PM

Thanks man.... The wait is well worth it.... I wish i would have gotten the GT but couldn't bring myself to pay the extra $10,000+ for the GT version of mine. I am working on a buddy right now trying to get him to do a photo shoot of my car with his Full Frame camera so i have some high res pictures. As soon as i get them, I will post for sure. This long weekend i will make a review vid and post it on youtube and let everyone know

Vmax5000 06-27-2012 12:27 PM

Hey no worries on the V6, it's a great car! I was going to go that way when I first walked into the dealership. But unfortunately I took a GT out for a spin!! You're right it's a lot more money, but I thought screw it I'm going for the GT!! Can't wait.... tick tok.

Simons 06-27-2012 12:41 PM

It's been hard waiting for the break in period to be over. I have almost 1000 km's on it now. 500 more to go then i am driving it how ever i want lol. But now i am on the hunt to find a decent exhaust so i can hear it when driving but not be too loud. The GT is the perfect rumble.
